Cool '95 F350 4x4 Transmission or Torque Conv Shot?

My '95 F350 4x4 is not a daily driver, but 2 weeks ago I started my truck... cold out maybe 20 degrees f. It was making a screaming noice from under the hood and I thought it might be the power steering pump complaining because it was so cold. After a little while the truck warmed up and the noise stopped and I drove it just fine. Last weekend same thing... I started it, cold out and heard the noise again but this time I paid a little more attention and it seemed it was coming more from underneath and thought maybe it's the transmission. The noise stopped again but now I'm afraid the transmission is shot because it doesn't go anywhere!

Wondering if you think it's the transmission or torque converter or if anyone ever had the same thing happen. I guess I'll start by dropping the trans pan and see if there are any metal shavings in there. The fluid is where it should be but it does seem to have a touch of discoloration in it. Any other tips will be appreciated.

thanks...

What transmission do you have? I was thinking maybe your starter isn't disengaging.

Get this... I started and moved the truck today and then it started making that strange noise so I shut it down. When I restarted it 15 mins later, it wasn't making any noise but it wouldn't move. I checked the linkage and it is shifting fine and fluid level is fine and is not brown by any means. About an hour I started it again and as I was trying to figure out how I'm going to push or pull it out of the way with my tractor it made a noise so I jumped in and it works all of a sudden, so I was able to move and park it.

I'm wondering if this sounds like the trans pump is bad... what do you think?

Transmission center offers some help with noises... I need to diagnose further... I know the noise happens in Park and neutral and but sure if it does it in drive. Maybe the filter is clogged a flush and fill would correct, if I'm lucky.

hmm no posts? wondering if anyone is on this board.... It's like my own blog, lol.

Guess what I found in the bottom of my transmission pan? Big chunks of ICE !!! Have no clue how water got into the tranny... I've only had the truck a little over a year. The filter was pretty much frozen as well. The fluid was pink like Pepto Bismol. I changed the filter and topped it up with fluid and it is fine now... actually shift's pretty smooth! I'll have to take it in for a complete tranny flush, but I think I may have dodged a bullet on this one.

lol, yes it may have gone through a big puddle at some point in time. Seriously though... is there a vent tube? I never really looked, but it's not the same tube that the dipstick goes in, is it?

should be a rubber vent tube coming off the top of the trans!or it may be missing-they can come off! glad ya dodged the bullet this time-I would check for the vent tube and do a complete trans flush as soon as possible at a reputable trans or repair shop!

from what i've been told if your trans fluid is pink then you have coolant that got into the fluid from the trans cooller

that's because it turns pink with water not just coolant
