It's not intended to infringe on anybody.
I'll take this to mean that there never really was a "problem". It just sucks that once again, we're being "punished" (and I know that's not the right word) for no real reason. I'm gonna go tweak my sig image (since it's too cold to work on the truck today) to see if I can make it fit the size limitations so I can upload it. I assume the silly "Ford-Trucks" plug isn't put on the uploaded sig image?? Thats the only reason I have mine hosted on my own webserver, honestly. That and it's easy to update -- I make a change to the image, save it as a new .gif of the same name, then FTP it to my server. Change is done.

About the reps -- I agree completely. Needs to be looked at. I try to rep only who deserves it, but you know what? I go around handing out frivolous reps JUST SO I CAN **FINALLY** rep the one I wanted to in the first place. There are several folks here that deserve reps more often than the system will allow, so I end up dolling out more goofy ones just so get past the "spread it around" window. I realize the down-side is folks inflating each others' rep count, but aren't I doing the same thing? Maybe the threshold can be lowered some.

Same here.

I find myself going around to look for ANY reason to rep someone, just to avoid the "spread it around" notice.

Post a nice looking picture of something? Hey, rep points!

Post something more humorous than normal? Hey, rep points!

Christmas? Hey, Merry Christmas rep points!

I just put all my mods in my profile a little while ago since I had run out of space as it is. Thats where our mod list should be anyway, I know its easy to have it in our sigs but IMO i dont see the big deal. I personally am not a fan of sig images but I wasnt the one that complained!

It's not a big deal but I think it is much better to have them in the sig. Many mods have caught my eye that I would have never known about if I had to look at everyones profile. Plus it would suck to have to open a profile every-time someone has a question to see what they have. IMO

True, I agree but after while you begin to remember what mods people have as awell. There is another forum that I go to which has a cool feature, there is a little arrow by each screen name, you click that and you can see thier computer mod list (its for a car PC forum). Its noce because it doesnt take you away from the forum at all and you just mouse over and there is the mod list.

its at MP3Car.com - Your source for mobile computing solutions! - All Blog Entries, maybe the admins here can revise the site a bit for all our co-operation???

It was deleted with out even a pm. This was very insulting to me given how hands on the rest of my experience has been. I understand the need to keep people from "hocking" junk in the "tech" forum, and believe me I GREATLY appreciate it, but wish a little more care could be used.
I will be honest, I can't speak to the removal of your thread, as I wasn't the one that did it.
If if was moved, and you weren't notified, I apologize, we do try to notify people if and when we move something.
I am just guessing here, but based on what you said, it may have looked like you were trying to sell stuff in the forum
And finally, sorry, I would also like to comment on the rep timeouts and spreading. While I see why the rules are in place I think they need to be tweaked a little. I think there needs to be limits, but I only rep those who deserve it. There are a few reasons to rep but like it or not a small percentage of supporters provide the larger percentage with answers and ideas and they deserve consecutive reps without spreading just to rep again. Spreading them around needlessly only serves to cheapen them.
You may/maynot be aware, but the rep system (as it is now) has been through a number of iterations, if I recall correctly, this is probably iteration 5.
It has been everything from open slather (really didn't work as people abused it) to really restrictive (likewise, didn't work, no one could hand out rep).
What we have now is somewhere in between, it may be dissapointing that you can't hand reps out all the time, but by the same token you can always remember that when you do hand them out, they mean a fair bit more
Ok, well I think my "short" huff is done. Hopefully this is well received since although enjoying everyones sigs, have the same one as always and have no personal grudge. ADMINS, OWNERS, and MODS- Please remember that the reason we as supporters are here is for the atmosphere this family has. We are more then techies, we are share our lives with each other and you WOULD NOT have the forum you have with out this none techie family side. Please remember that we pledge our support not to the corporate company, but to our fellow supporters, though we do appreciate you providing this outlet for us through our donations.
We appreciate your participation - I recall back in the day when I came to the site, I enjoyed participating in the 7.3 forum, and it was fun!

I might add - limitations that we may make on the forum (be they signatures or other) aren't there to spoil peoples fun, even if it may look like it.
They are there actually to enhance peoples fun, with a site that has been around as long as FTE, and as large as it is, we gain a fair understanding as to "what works" and "what doesn't", and we try to do more of "what works" and less of "what doesn't".

I know you guys here are a great, helpful, and tight knit group - and we acknowledge and appreciate that, and hopefully what we offer (this site) can give you an opportunity to chat and meet up with more 7.3er's.

If you will be honest, you will acknowledge that this is the best forum on your site. I think I presented facts to this effect last night. I know why you may not do so, and understand.

Changes may not be made to spoil people's fun, but it seems it has for some. You said bandwidth was not an issue, so what is? Nobody here is annoyed with sigs. We are the folks using thie site. Who is this annoying?

I too am annoyed with the rep thing but that is for another day, usually. Alas you are here, so it pisses me off trying to credit folks for posting tech info only to find out that I have to rep whatever I can find enough times to give that person credit in a timely manner. This site is busy, I won't remember two weeks down the road. There are certain people here whose main focus is answering those endless questions for new folks. I cannot credit them enough. Just a thought. I am not here for credit, but I sure see a lot handed out for jokes and pics. Nothing wrong with that, but I would like to reward folks for doing what needs to be done here to attract and keep folks here. Most folks don't find this site looking for jokes or wit, or even pics. They want to know about the truck. Once here, we got them. We're just that way here. Done with this topic.

Hey, I have no more topics except to say I appreciate you coming on here and responding Adrian. I would rep you, but you don't need any.

Well, I tweaked my sig, and it fits within the image size specified, so I'm good now.

I guess by me getting ignored, I'm asking the right questions....

I'm done with it too.

I could say that, but its like saying that this child is better than that child.
And I think saying any forum we have is the "best" belies peoples efforts in other sections here

I may have explained this before (or I may not have, if I didn't, sorry).
We aren't changing the rules here - what we are doing is changing the way they are enforced.
We have always had these rules (they were originally born out of people finding what maximum signature size people didn't complain about!) its just that instead of having the restriction set by the software, people would make large sigs, and we (mods and/or admins) would contact them and ask them to downsize them.
Given there are nearly 1/2 a million users on FTE, it just doesn't work to police it in that manner, and with newer software that FTE is now running on, we have the ability to limit it in the software now, so we felt the best way to do so was to let everyone know what these limits are going to be, and put them in place in one months time!

And a happy New Year to you all!
Adrian

OK, What complaints? Who? Let's not blow smoke here. I know you explained the rules before, but the complaints thing stinks. Who is complaining? What is their status here, 4 posts and gone? Let's cater to them. C'mon Adrian, give us the numbers to support the policy. I know we can't have unlimited sigs because we would see about 2 to 3 posts per page, but really?

Why can't supporters have a larger sig, not obnoxious, but acceptable? Might bring more supporters too. Would you consider this up there in FTE land?

I don't want to bring up names, but I did a search in my e-mails.
Since I have been an admin (3yrs now) I have had 63 reported posts of individual users complaining of excessive signatures. (This has been since we have had guidelines in place too!)
I don't know their post counts, but the typical poster that "reports a post" has more than 1000 posts.

As for supporters having a larger sig - supporters will have a couple of extra features with their sigs, but it will be the same size

Thanks Adrian. 63 out of 1/2 million users. I can see why this is a huge problem on the forum.

Good night.
