Hey guys, been posting on the 73-79 forum for awhile. I have been having a problem with my 77 F-250 SC. The motor is a 351M, it has been pushing abit oil out of the dipstick. So I did a search on here and everything pointed to the lack of a PCV system, had a chrome breather cap in 1 valve cover. So I got a new PCV valve and installed it, ran a hose to the back of the holley 2bbl. Took it for a test drive and when I opened the hood, oil was everywhere on the right side of the motor. It is 10 times worse now. The PCV valve still looked clean on the inside. I have just an oil fill cap on the left side valve cover, no vent.
Any ideas? Or should I just get a new breather cap? Thanks in advance.
PS: Any ideas on getting the distributor to move without ripping it apart? My is stuck at TDC, been soaking it for weeks.
i had the same problem... i put in a miloden oil dipstick tube(Milodon 22040 - Milodon Stainless Steel Oil Dipsticks - summitracing.com), windage tray, and made a 10 qt oil pan...(made the full oil level farther away from the crank) i also have a evac kit on it.. no more problems.. but i have talked to people that have just done the diff. dipstick and it fixed the problem.. i run my motor at high rpms(up to 7000 sometimes) so thats why i went the way i did.
I fixed it. Pulled the fill cap off my 79 which has a spot for a PCV valve in it and put it on my 77. Ran the hose from it to the back of the carb. Then ran the hose from the right side PCV valve into a port on the manifold. Now when I pull either valve out, I can here the air rush by as the seal breaks on the vacuum. I also put a piece of hose around the dipstick tube and dipstick. Holds it nice and tight with no leaks.
