My 2006 F150 Cruise Control does not work. I searched the fuse information in the owner's manual and the only reference to any fuse in which the cruise control might be wired through is fuse #14 which refers to the "redundant speed control" and several other systems. Any information or suggestions to trouble shoot this system would be appreciated.
Engineer2, is your brake light on? I ask that because my cruise control quit working and my brake light was on as well. If this is your case there is a small switch that attaches to the top of your emergency brake that tell the truck when the E-brake is not engaged. It has came off and needs to be re-attached. If that switch is not engaged the truck will think the e-brake is on and the cruise control will not come on........... If this is not the situation the only other thing I know to check other than the fuse, is there is a bundle of wires that sit directly on the driver side of your transmission, check and make sure all of the wires are properly connected, im not sure which one but one of them is the cruise control. If none of these have helped simply run by a ford dealership and ask them to look at it, they don't charge to look find out what the problem is and return to these forms and find out how to fix it. Good Luck!
thomasf150, Thank you for your reply. After checking most of what you mentioned and finding "nothing", I took the truck to the Ford dealer. Since the cruise control in my truck is controled through the main truck computer they found that it was a software problem. The dealer downloaded new software and installed it on the main truck computer and now everything works fine. Again thanks for your reply.
Awesome! I have never heard of that before. I have a friend with the same problem, I will tell him to check his main truck computer. Thanks for the info.

When you took your truck to the ford dealer did they charge you for the software upgrade? and if so what price should i expect?
the 3rd brake light is also a problem. If the cruise control stops working, the 3rd brake light might be out. Same with any brake lights I assume. I only know this because I swapped to LED's and it quit working due to lower power draw and making the cruise control think the 3rd brake light was out.
Stupid way of warning someone their brake lights are out. Another ingenious FORD design.
The third brake light in my 04' has been out for several months but cruise control has worked fine every day.....every day until I changed the battery that is. Changed battery and now I have the red (P) parking brake light always on and cruise control not working. Just today 5-12-20 I changed the cruise control inhibitor switch (blue/white colored plunger switch) which did not cure the issue. So now I'm here searching for others that have been able to fix their cruise control.
Just a little FYI for future researchers.
Oh geez-us. LOL. I just realized this thread is 12 years old.
So I'm wondering if thomasf150 is referring to the rear tail lamp brake lights...or referring to the (P) brake light I referred too in my previous post?
When the CC first didn't work the first thing I attempted was working the parking brake on and off several times thinking the pedal was not fully returning to the retracted position. And upon looking under the dash I was confused by all the stuff that's stuffed into that small space. Didn't notice a switch on the E-brake pedal though.
Cruise control f150 2008, same ol, always seeing these 10-12 year old threads

Same problem 2008, & yes all these 10-12 year old threads, mine just stopped! Been dealing w a stumbling engine, spark plug & wire change, found fried plug wire still problematic , somewhat better. Cruise would be nice to figure out why it just dropped out.. starting to wear me out!
