Reason: spelling
I haven't used a gasket on a 9" in 30yrs and only had one leak. blue or black rtv only. I have run them with and without the copper washers but will say the only time I had the leak I wasn't running them but many times I have done it and they didn't leak either. But with that said I believe I would get new ones especially if you don't plan on taking it apart very often.

Every 9" from 1957 thru 1986 came from the factory with the carrier gasket and copper washers.
The washers are still available from Ford, but no dealer in AL stocks them. If you special order them, you'll prolly have to buy the entire package of 40.
Ford parts vendor Green Sales Co. in Cincinnati OH has 320 of them: 800-543-4959.
Get copper washers from the hardware store.
The ones I used were in the plumbing section.
They appeared to be "flare fitting washers". {shrug}
Every 9" I've rebuilt got no gasket and didn't leak except where I bent the
axle housing getting the stuck sucker out. ;) Had to take it out again anyway
so it was no sweat but with the housing straightened out, no leaks (at all)
the second go around.
Did you pry on the housing where it's leaking?

Gaskets are a pain. YMMV
Ultra Black was made especially for me and my hatred of everything gasket. ;)
Carburetor gaskets (on the other hand) get a generous dousing of silicone
spray or silicone grease.
