Noob from Chicago Burbs

Hi Everyone and Happy Holidays!

I just bought my 2008 Certified Used Ford Escape V6 FWD. I have had it only 10 days. The first day I had it, we had very icy road conditions, 2 days later we got 4" of snow..of course at Rush Hour, then we dropped the temperature to nearly -37 wind chills for 2 days, next day...5" of snow again at Rush Hour and...no not done yet..2 days later, yesterday, 4" <seemed like 6 tho> again during Rush Hour. WOW!!!

OMG.....LOL unbelievable! What a time to totally rely on a no history used car! I would have liked to have had some time to get used to the Escape,, make sure it's all OK. But I literally was thrown into it. The car handled exceptionally well and I'm a little skiddish driving snow covered streets.

I have an 06 Mustang that now sits in my only garage <condo>, so sit and spin has typically been my winters. Stang would not have gotten me to work during all this.

My windshield washers would not work, they do now because the dealer had it and put my remote start in. But that's a real concern...it's not safe to drive if your windows are getting all splashed and you cannot clean them.

Is there an after market company that makes a relocate washer system to like the wiper blade? I know Classic Design Concepts does make them for Mustangs...don't know if it could be used on the Escape or not.?? Anyone know??

But I am totally impressed with this ride, very comfortable, sized right for me, very quiet and wow! Glad I bought it!!

So what kind of mods do we have for these, huh? : ) I am trying to locate sites...dress up parts I don't know.

Thanks and good to meet you all. : )

A bit Off Topic!

We've had the 6-8" of snow and it was raining today. Streets are either wet or all slush.

I'm going down a pot-hole road when all the wet snow from my roof slides down over my windshield, totally blocking my view! It broke after a few seconds but still covering half the windshield and my wipers were jammed! I could barely see in front of me. Talk about scary.

Nobody behind me but a car back in the right lane of a two lane road. I slowed up trying to get over and they slowed up too. They must have seen what happened. I managed to get to the right and into a gas station to clear the snow off.

I've never touched the luggage rack cross bars and both were all the way back. All the snow ahead of them slid forward. I'm going to move the one forward. You can be sure that I'll be cleaning the roof off from now on!!

I had went out earlier to blow away the wet snow while it was drizzling. I cleared the windows. I decided to go someplace and it was raining then but the snow on the roof never dawned on me! It's barnd new, so the paint is slick. That luggage rack kind-of deters one from removing snow from the roof too.

Yeah, driving blind isn't fun. Lucky I didn't cross the center line into oncoming traffic!

You were very lucky and yes, the luggage rack does hinder snow removal...found that out! : ) Blessed Holidays to you and yours! Can't wait to start buying some things for my new ride. Seriously, my Stang may not be driven much and it won't bother me. : ) Nice sound system too!

I bought some rubber floor mats at the local auto parts store but they don't cover all the area that needs it just like the originals. Well, at least they are solid rubber.

I did get a Husky Cargo Liner which is nice. They have liners for the interiors that cover the area good but I don't "think" they have or fit a 09 yet. It's a bit confusing as the Cargo Liner for the 08 fits the 09 too.

Get yourself one of those snow brush's that extend, and you can clean the roof too. You can take the bows out of the roof rack just by turning the little *****-makes the job easier. By the way-WELCOME to FTE!!! And doesn't the Escape handle like a peach in snow....

I have a adjustable brush, just didn't clear the roof. Just ran my trash out for tomorrow's pick up and quickly tried to loosen one side of one of the crossbars and couldn't budge it. There's somekind of stops at the back end that must be released before you can slide them out.

They refer to the locks for the luggage crossbars as "thumb screws"! Like to see the thumbs that tightened mine?

Got up on a two-step ladder today and couldn't loosen them by hand. Used a 1/4" wooden dowel 5" long and broke it once. The dowel worked on some of them but the angle was wrong for others and I ended up using pliers with some paper towels to protect the finish.
