I don't know how late I'll be up, but if you have more questions and no one else is responding, try asking down the the 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section for any questions you may have along the way. It's further down the main forum listing, or here's a link to it https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum31/

well i ended up not working on the truck that night and just took it to ford friday morning to get the codes read. They said that the transmission solenoid pack was bad so I took it to the transmission shop who rebuilt the tranny about 5k miles ago. It is under warranty so they are supposed to fix that for free. Anyway, here are the codes that they gave me. They said to fix the tranny solenoid pack first then go from there.
O/D
P0743
P1275
P1277

Engine
P0470
P0472
P0478
P0741
P0743
P1316

Do these engine codes seem to be the symptoms of the UCVH being loose?

Yes the codes support an injector wiring (connector) issue. For the EBP codes you can try this Welcome to guzzle's Exhaust Backpressure Sensor Cleaning Maintenance Web Page

same kind of check engine light problem

so when my truck starts, i have a check engine light on. it runs rough, cant get up to speed and wastes lots of gas. however if i let it warm up for bout half an hour or so the engine does this rev by itself and then the check engine light goes off and it runs fine. im not sure if these fixes are the problem or if its something else. i was thinking of replacing the o2 sensor... is that the prob? also when its runnning crappy like that there is black puffs coming out of the exaust but not when its running good. im super confused on this issue because i have done the basics, new oil, spark plugs, and replaced cracked manifold.
HELP!!!

The check engine light means a code has been stored that will tell you where to start. Without the code all you can do is start buying parts hoping you get lucky.

What engine do you have? Being that you mentioned spark plugs, what ever those are, lol. I'll venture that you have a gasser, the forum you posted in is the 7.3 powerstroke super duty forum.

But to help, read the codes, it will help point you in a direction. If a modular motor like the 5.4 or 6.8 and you are getting a misfire detected, I would look into the COP.

How do you know that he is getting a misfire detected? It doesn't say that anywhere. The CEL on does not mean misfire UNLESS the CEL was flashing.

I don't nor did I mean for it to sound like he was, I was just saying that IF he had a modular motor AND it was getting a misfire detection that's where I would lean. Just offering suggestions instead of simply saying "out of my forum".
