I have been fighting the code for a week now (I have a 2000, FWD with the V10 with 147,000 miles). I have done all of the usually checks. Mine light came on immediately after I added injector cleaner to the tank? Now, I have both codes.
I have made visual checks (didn't think a PCV is on the V10), cleaned the MAF, replaced the fuel filter. I don't want to spend the money to take it in yet. Is there a code reader that will assist with diagnosing the problem or a vacuum leak? I have a manual, but it just explains the DTC's. HELP!!!!
Yeah, but it's probably cheaper to take it in and have it diagnosed. There could be any number of leaks causing it to be lean, clogged injectors, low fuel pump output, air leaks in exhaust, faulty 02 (doubtful) but there is the chance the fuel cleaner contaminated them, or the MAF could just need replacing if cleaning didn't help. YOu have to look at the datastream at this point i think. See what the MAF and Baro readins are and what the o2's are doing.
Make no mistake. AUTOZONE DOES NOT DO FREE DIAGNOSITCS! They will pull a code and sell you a part. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Properly DIAGNOSING a vehicle takes time and skill both of which aren't free.
We already have the code, but we need to know why. More steps to take and more diagnosis to do!
I think those were the same codes I had when I had the very common vacuum leak. Its on the front of the intake by the air tube... got a really wicked bend in the hose... its pretty short too. check it thoroughly for cracks and such.
