Calling all transmission gurus!! Need Help!

Hello all! Haven't posted in a while, but I have an intermittent problem that is really troubling me. First off, truck is an 06 F250 CC FX4 with approx. 35,600 miles on it. Also have an 8'-2" Boss poly V plow on it. The issue is as follows:

When I am plowing (and only when plowing), I will make a push, and gently stack into the bank. When throwing into reverse and gently hitting the gas, the transmission will sound like it "chatters" for a few seconds before dropping into gear. Almost seems like the gears arent meshing completely, but i don't know. Keep in mind I do NOT plow like an idiot....have been doing it a long time and I spend way too much money on my trucks to beat them like that. The main thing that concerns me is the "grinding" or "chattering" noise, as well as the fact that it only happens now and then, and ONLY with the plow on.

I know....sounds weird doesn't it? Well.....anyone have any thoughts?? I'd like to try and get this figured out before it gets any worse.

Thanks in advance all!

manual or autobox ???

if its a stick, u sure ur clutch isnt wearing out and not allowing the gears to mesh properly ?

if its a autobox, any kind of metallic grinding sound cant be good...

p.s. it def tranny related ??? u sure its not just a noise from ur plow somehow ??? seems kind of funny the noise only occurs with the plow installed. like maybe something loose and knocking around ???

kinda hard to guess with so little info.. hope that helps..

Thanks for the reply!

Holy crap!! How the heck did I forget that kind of info!!?? Anyway, to answer your question, it is an AUTO transmission.

I understand your reasoning for thinking it is plow related, as thats what I have been thinking too. I have gone through the plow top to bottom, front to back, and side and side and cannot find anything at all wrong. This is what leads me back to the transmission (considering the sound/feel). Not really sure how to better explain it than as if the gears aren't meshing until the right RPM is met, and then it drops into reverse. This is driving me nuts because it is so sporadic, and I cannot seem to isolate anything that makes it happen.

Only other thought I am having is making front end/transfer case? That might explain the reasoning for only happening when plowing, as that is the BULK of the time that I am in 4x4, and using reverse.

Any body else got any ideas?

OMG..the snap ring issue again....
http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-05-06.php
Supposedly,it only affects '05 models from job #1 until production date 02/05. But,I've seen enough complaints about it to wonder if the snap ring design is seriously flawed.

I wonder about the pressure control solenoid causing this symptom.

What about limited slip?

Does the truck have limited slip? It may be a long shot but it could be the rear end. I have had quite a shutter before in my truck when the limited slip engages/disengages when I am on snow and give it too much gas. With a plow on the front it would be even more likely to happen as that would tend to lift the back slightly unless you had a bunch of weight in the bed. Just a thought.

aaronbrace - Thats a good thought, but I do have weight in the back of the truck (about 700lbs).

Im thinking the reverse shudder tsb, or the snap ring issue.....guess i'll have to do a little more research.

Appreciate the help folks!!

you do have a 3yr/36k mile warranty right? pretty sure thats standard. better get her in quick, or does the plow void the warranty?
