Hi this is my first post but ive been lurking in the background for a couple months. I know this isnt the place to talk about plows but im new to the 6.9L diesels and plows. The guys on the plow sites seem very grumpy and you guys seem very helpful.
I have an old 7.5 foot Meyer plow with an E-47 pump. The plow has ski on it not shoes like ive seen before. any advantage to these? Also any things to watch for with this?
On this plow i have 2 toggle switches that angle and raise the blade. Is there a way to make this work with some momentary buttons so i could have four buttons to control the plow?
My truck is an 86 f-250 manual so I want to make the plow controls into the shifter.
Anything to watch for when plowing with this old girl other than temp?
Is the plow for a diesel truck? Im pretty sure that if you put a plow on one of these that it has to be for a diesel pickup. Something to do with how low the radiator support is or somethin.
i put an E-47 on my 88 when it was 3 months old, and have never had it off the truck since. i also had the dual toggle switch plate, and mounted it to the shifter stalk just under the shift **** so i could operate the plow without ever taking my hands off of the shifter or steering wheel.
all i did was modify the switch mount plate enough so that i could put a small hose clamp through the bolt holes, then used the hose clamp to hold it tight to the shifter.
as far as the skis go, i use western mushroom style skids on my Meyers plows.
to adapt the western skids to the Meyers plow frame, i use a piece of black iron gas pipe as a bushing.
the skids fit perfect into the gas pipe, and the pipe fits perfect into the plow frame.
Your angle switch should be a momentary on - off - momentary on
Angle to either side and return to offin the center when released.
The up and down switch should be a momentary on - off- on
Raise position should return to off when released and should stay in the down (float)position until you move it to off or raise.
That way if you plow over the top of a hill, the blade can follow the ground and go lower as required when it is still in the down (float) position.
A while back Meyers did have a touchpad control, but I am not sure it worked with the E 47, I think it was for the E 60.
Yes the plow is on the diesel. I got it off of an 86 f-250 gasser. A little torching and welding and its on my "good" truck. When i switched over the plow i moved the toggle switches off of the dash and on to the shifter also. i was going to get a piece of square tubing and make like a hurst shifter **** with the buttons for the plow. good idea but i cant figure out how to do it with only one wire controling the angle. at least thats how i think it works?
For the float i was going to hold down the down button while plowing forward.
FWIW I don't run skis or shoes on my plow. Most of the guys I plow with don't either. I rin a 7'6" western. I like the touchpad for meyer control tho I think wiring buttons would be more of a pain than its worth.
My Snoway is a little different with down pressure I have three switches.
I mounted mine on the gear shift, up and down under my thumb with the switch oriented front to back.
Side angle, switch oriented side to side, between my third and fourth fingers.
Down pressure is with my pinkie, on and off.
Easy to operate all three switches with my hand resting on the shifter ****.
With buttons, you have to keep the down button closed so the plow will follow the ground unless you are plowing flat lots only, something I never see here.
What is the advantage of an E-60 pump vs. the E-47?
Is there an easy way to extend the cutter edge, my plow isnt wide enough er i should say my tires are too wide and i could use a wider plow. I saw a guy get a longer cutter edge and mount halves of 55 gal drums to extend the plow. only thing will it have strength that i need when pushing into a pile.
would taking another plow and welding sections on each end work like a foot on each end to make it 8.5 foot?
The E60 will lift and angle faster than a 47. Its also more common than the 47, at least around here. If you want to add width to your plow, you can get a set of wings and add almost 2 feet. Id go with wings as they are removable and there are a lot of places I wouldnt fit if I was much wider.
