were can i find a tachometer and a pyrometer for my 1986 6.9 diesel? i dont want to pay a fortune for it but i dont want junk either! and how do i install them thanks,
David
somebody on here was discussing installing a peterbilt tach, but i never heard anymore about it. i am not aware of any aftermarket tachs. give it a day or so, somebody will chime in.
You may get a truck tach you will still have to use the ford sensor dont know about calibrating it. The pyro you can get at any truck dealer or parts house isspro is the brand most common in big trucks.

What type of threads are on the factory Ford sensor/ gear cover? There may be a possibility that the IH may share common parts with KW and Peterbilt and the sensors will interchange. With some factory tachs, they come with a book to help figure out the calibration through a series of dip switches.
That is true, but the sensors are reading the same information, magnetic pulse counts. And depending on the truck series, you should be able to find a tach with the RPM range needed for the 6.9 (maybe a business class chassis). I know the class 8 Pete tachs go to 3K, which is a little bit low for an IDI.
Might be able to get a didital one from dakota digital they make some awsome instrument clusters for fords not sure about diesels though. Pricey though.

they are pricey... here's a link.... works with gasser tach's... not too sure if it will work with a stock idi tach though. It's what I've been thinking of using for my 6bt swap.
Banks and a couple of other companys make a small tack that uses a magnet epoxied to the harmonic balancer. I have used the banks one before. Easy to hook up, worked perfect.
