Speedometer and Tachometer Jumping 02 Explorer
I have a 02 Ford Explorer 4x4 and the speedometer will drop in speed while the tachometer will just jump. This is happening several times on a 5 mile ride. The transmission isn't slipping. I feel it is a cluster issue. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it. Thanks for any help. David

The wiring on the guage cluster is jsut a huge plug. This means that the contacts can get old and short sometimes, giving intermittent stuff like you're talking about. Pull the guage cluster out of the dash, then clean all the contacts on the massive plug with contact cleaner and see if your problem goes away. I'm guessing this is the problem.
