Numbers look good to me. They say synthetic oil helps. Also, if your starter is original, you'd be surprised how much faster the motor spins with a new starter.
Ditto with Chris. A new starter spins these engines super fast.
Are these your original batteries? If so, they might last another year or two. I got 6.5 years out of my factory batteries. The new ones are Motorcraft 850cca batts. The originals were only 650's. They were only a little more expensive then the auto stores, but they're 36 month free exchange, 100 month prorated.
They are motorcraft 750CCA I think. So I would think there original. And starter was never replaced. I saw those high power starters on ebay. You think there any good?
Truck smokes the norm on start up. After work today it didn't smoke near as much as this morning when it was 11 deg. out. Plus I wait 20 secs past when the WTS light goes out, since I have the GPR LED mod.
If they're original batteries, it won't be long before you need new ones soon enough. As Trevor pointed out, you can get a great warranty on a new set of Motorcraft batteries.
If you're speaking of the hi-torque starters from DB-Electrical, then yes. Several people here have them. I bought their regular starter instead of the high torque, and couldn't be happier.
I will look into geting batterys in a few months then.
I see two starters. One is 3.6 KW with 12 teeth the other is 4 KW with 13 teeth. Does any of that make a differance?
That confused me too. I'll have to look tomorrow and see if I can find the box. I just called them on the phone and asked which starter I needed. I didn't go with the hi-torque, but they sent me the starter with the rigth number of teeth. If you keep looking, you'll also find the 3.6kw in a 13 tooth version.
The phone call was easy, and they're easy people to deal with. I just gave them my credit card info over the phone.
With just under 100K miles ya think I would really need a starter all ready?
I don't know, but I replaced my 2002 starter 2 months ago because it was kind of dragging. Age may play a factor here. Don't forget the oil option for the cold weather. I hear that makes a big difference too.

I went through the same thought process. My bat's are about 2 years old and on a 28 degree morning it cranked normal for a few seconds then really slowed down and just did start. After start I had the diesel romp for about 1 minute. Two days later I removed the oil,, installed Rotella 5w40 Full synthetic. Wow what a difference. Started like a gas engine , no romp and easier cold drive away. You might consider an oil change before a starter. Worked for me. I do think I will need bat's soon but just not now as in 25 degree it starts right up with 148,000 on the starter.
I want to put Rotella 5w40 Full synthetic in but I have about 2k on my oil so I have a few miles to go yet before I change it. I just hate seeing the price of the synthetic vs dino.
Started fine this morning at 14 deg. Not as slow cranking as yesterday morning.
Yes, I normally wouldn't chime in on something unless I feel confident of my comments but I changed to synth. oil and probably will stay on it year-round.
