What is the test for determining if your ball joints are good or bad?
Raise the front wheels off the ground about 1" and put a bar under the tire. You shouldn't feel any play in the wheel when trying to raise it. Check for slack in the hub bearings by grabbing the wheel, with your hands, at the 'top and bottom'. 'Front and back' to check to tie rod slack.

Orenzona.... THANKS
I am shooting for 1,000,000 mi on this truck. Still have original u-joints, injectors, glow plugs & relay, Valve covers have never been off.
Replaced water pump once , passenger side hub unit 2x , just relaced alll other front end parts. So over 300,000 on OEM tie rods track bar etc,
Wish me luck on the Million mi.
Anyone wanting to do ball joints, there is a great thread on the heavy duty/super duty forum. I can't remember the writer's handle but this thing is step by step with great pictures. Even I could do them with that cheat sheet.
Both tires felt solid with no movement up, down, side to side. Also checked the pitman arm, steering linkage, and such and all was tight with no play.
I'm guessing that I am going to have to check the steering box. It may need to be adjusted. And I need to change out my bushing on the sway bar link arms.
I usally use the camber or how far the tires are leaning in. Both times It was hard to tell if ball joints were bad even with truck jacked up and prying with crowbar. The only indication was trucks wandering got worse along with tires leaning in or camber way out. also ocasionaly steering locked slightly when turning . I had my suspicions and tire place confirmed them
