when i bought it it dint have the front drive shift in the truck cause it had bad ujoints i when i got in the mud for the fist times the spiders where striped so i never ran it in 4x4 with mis macth gears the fist owener weild the spiders it the front axle and spirped the and the gears on the axle where crached in half
I would leave the driveshaft out until you change the front end even without locking your hubs it could be putting a little more stress on your tranny transfercase and driveline components. maybe use that big hammer youve got to talk to the previos owner.
i did i bought it from his son how bought it off his dad and used it once to tow a trailer to stoney fort form travis air forced base he did now much about the truck and when went back to get the turbo the next week he was gone
It sounds like the PO really hacked the truck up. Welding spiders, and such. Your best bet would prolly be to git rid of the lift, and swap the front end of the donor truck, into Yours.
??
From the looks of your pictures, I'd say it only has about 4" of lift. With the wheelbase that it has, you should not be running into driveline angle problems with that small of lift.
I'd be leaning more towards a yoke/ strap or driveline issue.
Still interested in seeing pictures of how they set up the front end with the 70's model 44.
I know where you can get a hold of a late 80's 4wd F350 diesel. Last I saw of it, they were only asking $1200.
You'd be suprised how little angle some shafts have. Not too many degrees at all. A two wheeler shaft in a four-by is one thing I thought may have been done - it really sounds like the guy it was bought from didn't know squirt from squat!
I bet they finally sold it because they knew it was botched from top to bottom.
Another thing to look at is did they install a longer driveshaft if not it may not be far enough on the slip joint causing a vibration. real common when people try to lift them on the cheap.
