hey guys,
i recently wrecked my 93 150 (long story) anyway, i found an 89 250 (i think it's that body style) but needs major engine work to the 5.8L. the guy wants 850 for the truck which has been repainted, inspected, new tires on aftermarket wheels, and an auto, but im not sure how many miles are on the truck. my question is, would the 5.0L out of the 150 (which had the E4OD) bolt up to the auto which is in the 250? i believe the 250 has a C6 but im not sure. also would the motor mounts match or how would i go bout making either set work? i know its a alot of questions, but really need to know, got to get ball rolling on this. thanks for all the help, i really appreciate it.
nobody knows? come on guys, all i need to know is if the 5.0 from the 93 will just drop in and bolt right up with the trans and mounts in the 250. thanks in advance.
You will have a noticeable lack of power pushing a heavier 250 around with a 5.0 than the lighter 150. If you do it, be prepared for a lower level of performance. Use the time to rebuild the 5.8.
Yes the 5.0 will bolt right in, you need a 50oz flexplate for the tranny, don't use the 28oz balance flexplate off the 5.8, and because it's not as wide you'll have to use the 5.0 Y-pipe of run duals. The motor will run on the 5.8 computer but it will be rich at cold starts so be pepared for that.
cool, thanks guys, one question for you Conanski...are you saying that i'll have to use the flewplate off of the 5.0L? or is it a whole new flexplate? and one last thing, how would i fix the rich starts? and would it stop running rich the warmer it got? thanks again for all the help guys
I believe you can use the E4OD flexplate on the C6, you may want to get independant confirmation on that though. The reason the motor will wun rich is because you have a 5.8 computer running a 5.0, if you can find a 5.0 computer for a non computer controlled tranny you'll fix this problem. The computer from your F150 will throw codes and act up because it can't find the tranny. Another way around this is to put the E4OD in the F250 as well, but you'll need to swap the whole wiring harness too.
well the E4OD is about shot so thats a no go. well thanks guys i really appreciate the help fella's. just got a couple of more questions, im guessing the 5.0 will always run rich, right? and 2) id want to use the torque converter from the C6, correct? and lastly, would i be able to buy a 5.0 computer for a non computer controlled trans like say a manual? or would it have to be an auto computer? thanks again guys
