I read through several pages of searches that didnt really address this issue. My exhaust manifold is leaking and will probably change the gasket after the holidays...but I looked at how to get the passenger side manifold off and it looks like I will have to remove the wheel well to access all the bolts to the head...Is that all?? or is there more stuff I need to take off???
Any tips or tricks that will expedite the gasket change????
BTW its a 90 f250 7.3 NA 4x4
...I think I am going to stop the annoying exhaust tap/manifold leak before doing the D60 swap but I want to have all the procedures before I get into it just to eliminate down time. Hopefully I can have it done in one afternoon...Thanks in advance!!!
I was hoping to get enough room to use an impact to remove them, it saves me from busting my knuckles(I often dont wear gloves). there are about 4-5 bolts that are easily accessible but I dont know about the others. I hate trying to use swivels and stuff to break stuff loose-the heads of the bolts tend to get rounded off...does the inner fender interfere with some of the bolts?(it was already dark when I took a quick glance and Im at work now and didnt get a good look at the inner fender)...I know when I tried the driverside, it was a real pain to get to one bolt and I ended up not changing the gasket, but it didnt need to, I just had to pull the head and managed to remove it with the manifold attached...haha I know, I know...
Triangular threads???? Its not right-hand threads, right?? hopefully they dont break...perhaps soak them in pb blast about 24hrs before the expected time of extraction???? would an impact be a no-no??? turn the air down a bit???? i have a breaker bar but I dont know about the room needed....
I changed my passengers side manifold last winter. All I did was cut the plastic bottom of the fender well (with saws all) enough for easy access. Got right at it no problem all bolts came right out(lucky) . I just use the truck to plow snow and haul fire wood though. 83F350
Maybe if you remove the evaporator cover you can get to some easier. Honestly on the one i did, i just used a 9/16 wrench or socket on all of them. Dont use taiwan sockets though get a good one. The bolts are good so dont worry about rounding them off if you have a good 6 point socket just put the force on it till it breaks loose.
