white in the winter, grey in the summer, 911 in emergencies
Sounds like the 30+ years I spent in Detroit....
So the 911 stuff really works? In a serious pinch, would you recommend pouring some right in the fuel filter carrier up front?
We've been using white bottle all along, but only because it's available in bigger bottles (cheaper per ounce) and often goes on sale. There's one station we often use that sells higher cetane diesel (43-45 vs 39, IIRC) year-round, for only $0.05/gal more.
Jim, I run the grey when I can't get stanadyne. It will quiet the motor some and bump fuel mileage a fuzz for the better. It works great for me, but that's just my opinion.
Up here in Montana, we use the white in the winter at about 10-15% more than the bottle recommends from about mid October to Mid May and Lucas Fuel Treatment, year around. In really cold weather ( like RIGHT NOW it's 30 below with 45 below wind chills ), we blend in a gallon of gasoline to every 50 gallons of diesel in our bulk tanks on the ranch... both red fuel and clear. We tried using # 1 Diesel blends but, it gells up at 25 below and if we get a temperature break or a big thaw... fuel mileage sucks with #1.
The biggest reason for the Lucas is because we have some rotary pump John Deeres and New Holland stuff.... they dont last long on the ULSD fuel they're selling us.
So, use the white... and mix it rich... the 80 oz bottle labled " treats 250 gallons" is a marketing gimmick...mix it 15 - 20% richer than it says and it MIGHT keep fuel from waxing up to -40 like the bottle says. Every school bus in our district hasnt started since last friday... cause they mixed like the bottle says... go figure...kids love the extra days off though !
So if I didn't really care about the anti-gel, I should run the gray since it adds more Cetane?
I usually add 2-stroke oil, just wondering if there was some other benefits to running the PS, too.
I'm on my last bottle of Stanadyne that I stocked up on, looking at alternatives.

Thanks, all.
!0-4 the grey bottle raises the cetane 6 points and the white with the antigel only raises it 4 pts
