Park no start

Hi guys,
Haven't been here in while been real busy losing money and all. Anyway
truck has been giving me trouble with not starting until I play with shifter in the Park position then it will start like it finally activates a sensor or switch that tells the truck it's in park position. I don't know what this thing is called or the procedure for replacing it,was thinking someone here probably knows exactly what to do. thanks in advance Randy

All of my work trucks are Fords. One Superduty and one OBS truck does the same thing. I have yet to tear them apart to see what's wrong.

When its in Neutral, is the indicator in the middle of the N ? there is a barrel nut under the dash for centering it if not. Sometimes this is all it is, happened on mine. Just throwing out the free stuff first!

If the shifter is a little loose, look up under the steering column for 2 little torx head screws. They can work themselves loose and just need to be tightened back up.

Thanks, will check that to see if that's it. Gotta find it. Is becoming real inconvenient at the worst of times. Randy

I believe there is a safety switch in there somewhere. A couple of our work trucks won't start in park, but fire right up in neutral.

This fixed my problem a couple of months ago. Had to shift to nuetral a couple of times to start and a lot of play while moving the lever. If you jiggle the shifter handle while looking you will see the two torx screws.

Guys,
Found the torxs screws and they were indeed loose, adjusted the barrel nut so the the indicator is on but still having problems. Shifting to neutral does not work either. Think it may be my ignition switch hard to tell-it is so erratic-usually will work after I shut off the truck but after it sits at night then I have to fool with shifter and Ignition switch to get her to fire. Thanks Randy

Powerstrokedlariat,
Where is the barrel nut? Is it on the linkage to the trans or is it the wire that just controls the indicator location in relation to gear selection scale?
Thanks for contributing Randy

under the access panel under the steering wheel, laying on the floorboards looking up look towards the radio or so, you will see the thin cable and adjusting nut there....
