As i said before, before my post disappeared. im building a 9-10:1 compression 331 stroker with summit headers, ported e7 heads, comp cam 35-510-8, aeromotive adj fuel reg, 5spd, and 4.10 gears. ive got true duels now with a small pipe connecting the two for the o2 sensor. Recently a cracked manifold "forced" me to put summit shorty headers on. the collectors dont match up so im gonna go all new. should i keep the tru duel idea or run a big single?
Well, if you have gone through the arduous task of running duals and want to keep them then I say go for it. However, if you are looking for something "bolt-on" to replace them, there are several very good aftermarket single systems that will get you 3" diameter from the Y-pipe all the way back. The power isn't an issue. I've run Bassani's full setup on all of my Broncos from their shorty headers through their Y-pipe and then through their cat-back system. Its pricey but fits like a glove and has never required maintenance. (Side note: I started out with a Y-pipe with a cat in it and when the high flow cat guts began to disintegrate, I just smashed up the rest of the guts til they fell out. Cat isn't required on anything older than a '96 here in MO).
ive got the wiring harness for a sefi but i havent decided yet. would i have to run one? and also the summit tech guy told me that dual 2'' or a 2.5'' single would be better. i have the dual 2.5 now and it pulls pretty good down low.
i would dump the summit headers and run some long tube headers with this build to help with the low end torque. also since the heads are iron i would not exceed 9-1 compression unless you wish to run premium all the time.
yes you will need to run mass air or invest in a tunable speed density ecu like a Way1 and a tweecer. the adjustable fpr is useless since speed density only likes 39-45psi max and 19lb injectors. anything else requires tunning at some level. the cam also would need to have a lobe seperation of 114 or more for a stock speed density computer to work properly.
