Sort off topic on a truck board, but what the hay. Just bought a 65 Mustang restomodded with a 331 stroker. It was a long distance purchase and the car's on the way to Dallas from Virginia. I'm going nuts waiting. The PO put together what sounds like a very strong engine:
Mated to a Tremec TKO-500 and 3.73 posi 9" rear end. Once it gets to town I'm going to let the folks at Keith Craft dyno tune it just for fun; the dyno software I've got estimates 425hp. It'll be interesting to see exactly how it all comes together on a chassis dyno.
Anyway, I'm incredibly excited about finally getting my dream hot rod. Other than the wheels (and maybe a bit smaller cam) it's exactly what I would have done if I built a Mustang from scratch.
Now if I can just find a good lawyer specializing in speeding tickets...
it sounds like a runner thats for sure.....I've been thinking about a 331 for the falcon..hat to cut it up to put the 351Clevor in it ...to nice a car to cut up.
Sounds to me more like a 375-400 hp build. If you had better heads and cam you would be about where your estimate is, I think youll have around 350rwhp. All in All its PLENTY of power in a mustang and im sure youll be happy with it!
I'll post some pics when it gets here. Caspian Blue paint, black interior, full restoration and some modern goodies like rack and pinion steering, four wheel disc brakes, 5-speed, etc.. The anticipation is killing me.
I have a 331 in a 77 Comet, so far after 4 passes it's gone 13.16@106. Same stroker kit, Canfield heads (AFR165 equivalent) 57 cc chambers (10.4 to 1 ratio) 1.7 Comp rockers, Ford Z303 cam (.587/.587 228 duration @.050) Induction is a repop Ford 3x2 with three Holley 250's. Never heated the 225/70 street radials, shifted at 5500. More to come with 60' times in the 2 sec. range.

Thats a pretty good time for such small tires, however, I bet if you gave it another grand, you would definately be in the 12's. What rearend gears are you running?
That's a pretty big cam for a 331. The heads are a little on the conservative side. I'm thinking it will be closer to the 330-340rwhp range.
I recently pulled my little 3.25" stroke motor to move to bigger and better things. It had TFS TW heads, Performer RPM intake, a mild hyd. roller (.544/.576 224/230) and was EFI. It also had a Novi 2000. On 91 octane through the AOD, it made 602rwhp untuned with 13psi. It went 10.43 @ 131.5mph on radials. So these things do have potential.
Too much cam??? Maybe..... Ive got a 280H in my mostly stock 68 289. with those extra cubes the 292 should sound just about right. But a roller does sound good too. Ive got a 5.0HO block prepped in my shed for my fastback, 347 kit and all. Wicked car you got dude, congrats.
