so what maybe the k&n hurt the engine thats why i can only get 10mpg
Low boost, and 10MPG = boost leak, OR your MAP sensor is not reading correctly. does your electronic guage get its reading from the OBDII port, or do you have it plumbed into the MAP line ? If the MAP sensor is shot, then it is supplying incorrect info to the PCM, and is causing the PCM to fuel the truck incorrectly. I know there is a way to check the resistance from the MAP to the PCM, and convert that to barometric pressure, but I do not have the service manual in front of me. anybody got a link for the man to check.
It also may be as simple as the rubber line from the intake manifold to the MAP sensor is cracked and leaking. replace with 1/4 fuel hose.
my guage is in the map sensor line. there is also a boost fooler in that line that looks like a air compressor regulator.the line is in good shape i just clamped it all together, who ever put it in there just had it pushed it in the line with no clamps. thanks for all u guys trying to help me figure this out.
today its like 10 degrees here and my truck made this noise under the hood that sounded like a open air hose untill it got to operating temp or i got above 1500 rpm. what was that. i know it hisses out the exhaust when its cold but ive never heard that under the hood before
I dont know what that is, unless it had to do with the EBPV, which is the hissing out the exhaust, but from under the hood I really dont know without hearing it.
it sounded like it was at the back side of the engine and someone just opened a valve on a air compressor. i really hate this truck it is my first diesel and it is a pos.

Sounds like you EPBV is closing like is is supposed to. If you are hearing something else hissing air, then that may be your problem. Find that air leak and you will find your boost leak.

so when that valve is closed it puts more pressure on a leak thats why i hear it untill it gets warm and opens the epvb valve is that correct.
My guess is the hissing is your EBPV... You can disconnect it if ya want... Not going to hurt anything and that way you can figure out if thats your issue...
Yes, the EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve) closes off the exhaust flow to aid in warming the engine. By closing the valve, it also will cause back pressure. Don't think the intake pressure will be raised, but the exhaust pressure will. May be hearing your up pipe more when the valve is closed.
i just replaced the drivers side up pipe gasket with a new ford donut gasket last weekend, but i noticed the pass side is getting a little black around the flange. maybe thats what im hearing then. although i never heard it until i replaced the drivers side. maybe the new one is leaking
no but my new ford donut is leaking so im going to replace them with a carquest donut. hopefully when i get the up pipes to stop leaking it will help my mpg

I hope it works out. Let us know what ends up being the fix. Good luck Brother.
