Every now and then I get a check engine light in my 98 Expy that results in the same two codes: left bank lean and right bank lean. This only happens after extended periods of run time and at part throttle. I have changed the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter and found no leaks in any of the hoses or vacuum lines. Otherwise the truck runs fine and gets about 15mpg on the expressway if Im easy on it.
What next, fuel pump? O2 sensors? The sensors were changed about 30k miles ago. Could they have gone bad that fast?
Its a 5.4 with 101k miles on it. The only mods are a 3" Magnaflow cat back and a K&N filter with the air box mod.
More than likely you have a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF sensor. I eventually found the cause of my P0174 code: The PCV "return" hose (not the PCV hose, but the hose that supplies filtered air to the crankcase) was not fully seated in the driver's side valve cover back under the windsield.
Also make sure that the oil dip stick is fully seated and sealed (other wise the PCV will draw air in through the dip stick opening, therefore by passing the MAF sensor.
