hi i bought a 2003 crew cab f250 with the 7.3 with a auto about a month ago. my milage is 1o mpg thats mixed driving. i cleaned the ebv tube, it wasnt plugged. i tightened all my ic boots and intake spider boots. i changed the drivers side up pipe donut that was leaking. the pass side has a very small amount of soot around the flange i still need to change it. put a new k&n air filter in it, fuel filter and changed the oil. it has 86,000 miles banks 4 inch exhaust, ts 6 position chip, banks big head wg acuator, k&n intake.my boost seems a little low in stock setting i can only get 14 psi max and it runs around 2or 3 at 70mph.the guage is electronic i dont know if its right, any other things to look at, i read about everyone getting around 17mpg that why i went to a diesel, and it get the same as my 460 1 ton truck.it seems to run good and idles smooth.thanks for your time
Sounds like you've covered most of the regular issues. How high do the RPM's get when your accelerating? Is your turbo stock or has it been upgraded? Any lift or oversized tires? Who's tunes are on the TS chip? Do you have a stock setting you can try to get a baseline comparison on mileage?
I have a '03 6.0 with a ton of lift, edge programmer, air raid intake, RBP 5" exhaust and 44's on it and I get around 10 MPG combined HWY and CTY. Not sure if the 7.3 get's worse or better typically. Guys on here will definately have some info for you though. One thing I KNOW they are going to say is get rid of the K&N as soon as possible. K&N's supposedly let larger particles get through to the turbo which can cause problems in that area. They (yes they talk alot) will tell you that stock is better than having the K&N. I know none of this really helps you, apologies, basically just giving you a thread boost. Hope all works out for you.

Jimmy, what a great post for a 6.0 guy. You are right about the K&N filter. Yes we talk alot, but that is a good thing. You will get reps from me for sure. Hang around here, we like all the Ford diesels, well some of them anyway.

Thanks for the kind words Rick. I agree that it is a good, great even, thing that " they talk alot." In my short time on this board I have pulled hundreds of dollars worth of advice. That estimate is on the low side. I was just proud to be the first one to tell him about the K&N. LOL. Should I be upset about the "for a 6.0 guy" comment?

not sure about the rpm, but i will check it out tomorrow.my turbo is stock, no lift the tires are 285 75 16. the tunes are stock ts tunes. on my stock setting my milage is about the same.

so what maybe the k&n hurt the engine thats why i can only get 10mpg

I really don't know??? I was just posting that to tell you about the K&N issue and to try and keep your post on the front page so you could get some more advice. I guess it is possible that it may have caused damage and a resulting loss in power and or MPG. Do you know how long the previous owner had it on there?
Thank you for the kind words Jimmy! Heres my guess... K&N lets dirt through theres a link to show you that... If it has had one before and still has one my guess is that your turbo wheel is eaten up = low boost. Low boost will rob you of MPG's. Pull your intake tube and look at the wheel... If the edges are rounded AT ALL your turbo is southbound for sure. Reach in there and feel if the turbo wheel has ANY play... When you t-wheel eats dirt it will ruin the bearing and create play. Heres your hope! That enough dirt hasnt got past your turbo to hurt the motor... If it has you may be looking at a Low compression issue. But that is usually accompanied by white smoke and other issues...

it did have a k&N on it when i bought it and was missing pieces of the filter, so i bought a new one for it. i did pull the intake and looked at the wheel and it felt tight, but i did not feel the edges to see if they were rounded. i have never noticed any oil smoke at all. thanks for the help
White smoke as mentioned above... would be unburnt fuel. Another great cause of poor MGP. Motor went about 6 months after i bought it. We traced the issue to being low compression in #8 = a bad piston or cyliner wall... due to dirt
