New Shocks

I recently put new upper and lower ball joiunts on my 1998 F150, 4.6 4x4 and am probably going to put new Bilstein Shocks on at the end of the month.

My question is, what kind of diference in ride will I feel with these shocks? My truck drives nice right now with the stock shocks on. Is it worth the upgrade?

How hard ere they to install? Is it something that a shade Tree mechanic could tackle with a limited mechanical ability?

Convince me to put these on and justify the money to replace good shocks that are currently on my truck.

So your truck rides nice and the shocks are still good? Why would you replace them? Wait till they wear out and then it'll be worth the money.

At over 100,000 miles I bet they are getting weaker... but I couldnt tell you how much of a difference the new shocks would make. It would depend on how worn out the org. shocks are.

MY 2002 F-150 SC came with junky shocks from the factory. You would get "sea sick" from the ride, especially on the highway. At 5,000 miles I swapped out the factory shocks for Rancho RSX's and found a MAJOR improvement in the ride on all roads and surfaces. Shortly afterwards I added a Hellwig rear anti roll bar and that added even more ride improvement.

It wasn't tough to change the shocks on my try truck. The truck was only 6 months old and went through only 1 NJ salt winter. For you I'd soak the nuts on the shocks with something like PB Blaster for a couple of days before attemping to loosen the old shocks.

Ironically my 1989 F-150 SC had great factory shocks that I replaced at 90,000 miles just because I thought I should. The new replacement shocks the Motorcraft dealer installed rode the same as the 90,000 mile shocks I removed. So there was no need to replace them.

Has anybody tries Edelbrock IAS shocks? I currently have Rancho adjustable shocks and they are about dew to be replaced. I don't really care for them too much and was wanting something different.
