Welcome to the Forum .. It sounds like your under the valve cover plastic plug has come loose.. (there is one on each side)..A ford design defect.. You can ohm check each side before pulling the covers to determine which side is affected.. Here is a recent thread on the problem... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...and-p1316.html
You can reuse the cover gaskets and fix the problem by slipping a home made shim behind the lock tabs of the connector... or Ford sells a plastic clip also...
If one side is loose, the other side is probably just as bad, is what happen to mine...
no luck yet...iput my meter on the plugs in the valve cover and was getting proper ohm readings i think ...those plugs are hard to get at...while i was in there i did the foil delete...i dont mean to knock ford but serviceing this thing is a bit of a nightmare compared to my dodge..anyway i went ahead and replaced the cps on a hunch x2 to no avail...it starts right up ,runs for a few seconds then stalls..i have a check engine light but my obd11 reader is just reading error...my hpop is full..oil was changed in sept. i did add a full bottle of diesel cleen last time i filled up but i cant see that being a problem...to make matters worse my ex. is stuck in the driveway so my fairlane was stuck out in the sub zero weather and wouldnt start this morning
Pull the covers..If you keep checking the ohm readings, you will probably pin down the side that is loose.. Being that the connector is loose, it going to be hit and miss with meter.. Mine only acted up when the engine was up to operating temp.. Let it cool and it was OK.. The drivers side is a bit easier to remove. The P1316 is a indication of a loose connector under the cover.. Also, check for wire rubbing under the covers on moving parts..
