So about a month ago i bought a 2000 f350 screw and i love it so far other than my mileage. It came with a 6 inch superlift installed and 35 inch cooper discoverers. Had a superchips programmer i switched out from tow safe to performance mode day i bought the truck. Straight piped it about a week after i bought it. I get about 13.7 for mileage and put about 150 a day in highway miles. Would like to see better but would hate to put smaller tires on. my 2002 dodge 3500 gets 22 mpg on 35's and i would like the same on my ford. any ideas????
I have a 2002 F350
Stock tires,aftermarket exhaust,cold air intake,programmer
On highway if I drive nice,I have gotten as high as 29mpg,and about 17 in town.
put on about 130 miles today in -11 f on highway and got 22mpg.
Gotta raise the BS flag on that one.... 22-23 MAYBE. Best I've ever seen is right at 20, and if I kept driving like grandpa the ENTIRE tank, I might've gotten 22. I can't see anyone getting 29, unless you're reading the lie-o-meter on the overhead console...
No prob dude.....
You know how big the tank is,and I regularily fuel up at 1/8 tank and the odometer has gone about 750ish KM.
I have gotten just over 1000 KM per tank strictly highway driving.Sooo dude...you can call that right around 25.
When I got 29,conditions must have been just right,I checked it at both ends of my trip-I will say I have not got that good again.
Call me what ya will,I know how much fuel goes in,and how far she goes on it
If all I got was 20,I would sell it and buy a cummins(sorry for the swear)
Ooops forgot to mention that maybe in Canuckville we get better mileage
i wanna see better mileage than 13.7 my lie o meter says im getting 20.5 and yes my pcm is recalibrated for the tires. its getting old spending 30 to 50 dollars a day on diesel
I hate to say it but I don't think you are going to get 22mpg out of your lifted 7.3 like you do your Dodge. I am going to assume your truck is a 4x since it is lifted. I have basically the same truck and the best I have seen is 16mpg. I am sure I might be able to get 17-18 out of it but I would have to really baby the truck and drive under the speed limit on the highway.
Are you adding a fuel additive? How old is your fuel filter? Are your tires at the right PSI? Are you keeping rpm's under 2k? Do you have any boost leaks? Are you driving it like you stole it?
Yeah its a 4x4. only fuel additive is anti gel that truck stop adds this time of year. i need to change fuel filter. tires are right psi and rpms are under 2k no boost leaks that i could find and im typically driving like grandma lately to get better mileage occasionally putting my foot into it but not often i have an buttload of suspension mods but havent done my signature yet to list everything done. did the 6637 see to make a mileage difference over stock its one of the next mods i plan to do. i thought about backing my superchips off of performance mode but dont think it would make much of a difference.
i just bought a 03 and the best ive got out of a tank is 12 mpg. the only reason i bought it is because i always heard people were getting around 17 to 19 mpg. its depressing
I just took a trip up to SA. It was 600 miles total. I was driving faster than I usually do because I was in a hurry. I was running 70-75 and went 400 miles on 20.9 gallons.
The absolute best I have ever gotten is 24mpg, but I have never done it again. 29mpg (4x4 ??), yeah, I call BS. maybe your math is wrong.
Rules of thumb based on my personal experimentation:
every inch of LIFT over a stock 2wd height is gonna cost you 5% fuel economy. It is cumulative, but will not go over a final of about 10/12mpg.
every extra inch of tire width or height will cost you about 2%
the slush box tranny will cost you about 7 to 10% depending on a lot of variables, like where and how you drive.
winter fuel just plain sucks for mileage.
They could make you a specialized chip that would give you super mileage, but the vehicle would be ugly to drive.
finally 1750 rpm is the magic efficiency point for the engine and the curves slope gradually down to 2000 then drops off sharply. You don't want to be running 2200 rpm and expect mileage.
I claim right now 18/19 freeway with 5 min cool down, don't care streets have seen it at 26 ONCE, and I don't have a lie-o-meter in my XL

First things first,,,,WELCOME TO FTE! We're glad you're here! We won't hold it against you too much that you also have a Dodge, (that cummins is a great engine, I don't care what anybody says.)
As for getting the best mileage, about the only thing I could recommed that hasn't been mentioned is 1) get a cold air intake, preferrablythe 6637 mod, or something similar. No K&N please! 2) Call DP TUNER or Tony Wildman and see about their performance chips/mileage programs.

Okay, so how big IS the tank? Plus you're running winter fuel, which is another hit on the mileage. And are you talking 29 KILOMETERS per gallon or MILES???
These trucks can and will get 20+ MPG, but you really have to drive it like grandpa. No jackrabbit starts, and keep it under 70 MPH on stock tires/3.73 gearing. Mine is a shortbed, so when I nearly hit 600 miles on 30 gallons, I was thrilled...
I have averaged about 17MPGs with my truck and that is what I call good my old truck SC SB 4x4 got a best of 20 MPGs once. You must have your cal. messed up GlockOperator because there is no way unless you just idled down one long mountain all the way. These trucks do not get the MPGs that the Cummins and Duramaxs do because they are common rail injected where ours is HEUI system.
