It seems like there aren't many serious off-roaders here. If you want a new Bronco to succeed as a niche off-road vehicle like the Wrangler, it needs to be a short wheel base like the Wrangler and early Broncos. Full-size has no place off-road anymore. They are heavy, big, and hard to maneuver. A full size Bronco has no future in this market or any market really.
I think a new Bronco with a wheelbase similar to the early models (thru 77), Dana 30/44 front/rear std and Dana 44/44 front/rear (or equivalent) with selectable lockers. An optional 4:1 transfer case. Notice what I am describing? Basically a Jeep Wrangler with a Bronco body. I think that would be hugely successful as a niche product. Make something that is very capable off-road from the factory and infinitely and easily upgradeable in the aftermarket.

HAHAHAHA! You seem to be forgetting something... There's more ways to play off road than rock crawling... like MUD!!! A fullsize vehicle has a DEFINITE advantage over a smaller one in mud. The ability to handle gear and passengers is also a big advantage for many off-roaders...
The original fullsize Broncos were very manuvarble vehicles, and I've made many a manuver on a tight trail with my FSB that left Rangers and Wranglers alike behind... (The Yota's we lost LONG ago... The Blazers didnt even try...)
Just because you personally dont like fullsize off roaders (for whatever reason), that doesnt mean that alot of other people dont... Many of the people on this site are fullsize fans...
Both the early Broncs and the fullsize Broncs carved out quite a niche in the markets they previously existed in, and I see no reason they shouldnt do the same in today's market...If the people want it, it will succeed...
Dont say we aint 'serious' offroaders just cause we play different games than you...
Crawling is for babies... GIVE ME MUD! Haha just messin'...

Broncos have smoked Jeeps for years, and the current 'Jeeps" are about the worst things they've ever made... The last thing Ford needs to do is go copying Fiat-Chrysler's off road brand...
Try a solid 44 front with a 9" rear standard, standard Detriot rear and limited slip front, with optional Ox lockers front and rear as well as an optional front Detriot... Like the F-150 shows, the more options the better... Standard 3.73 gears with optional 3.54s or 4.10s.. Maybe 4.88s on some special apps...
The main place where the Bronco (fullsize or smaller) should be anything but a Wrangler is in the engine department... V8 and even straigtht 6 Broncos have always, ALWAYS put Jeeps to shame, and they would do the same thing now...
Quality construction would give the Fords another big edge over Jeeps...
I dont want the Bronco to succeed as a niche off roader 'like the wrangler'.. I want the Bronco to succeed as an off roader like a BRONCO...

Ok, there is a guy out there building 2 door Excursions for all those who want the full size super duty style. Do a web search for "custom autos by Tim". Looks like he does nice work.
Personally I KNOW the 77-79 are very capable off road. I had one that I put 345xxx miles on. I live in the sticks and would take that to work bucking snow up to the hood! When I did take it off road I had that thing in the woods and plowed fields in the mud that had tractors biting for traction.
I think a new bronco is a possibility. Someone said they hope Ford reads this. Well, send it to them. There have been many good points brought up. I do know if it happens, it will have to share parts with other models. Who knows, maybe some good parts will trickle down to all those grocery getters they are pumping out. I wouldn't give up on solid axle though. Fewer moving parts is cheaper to manufacture! IFS is for the ride. Nobody wants there eggs broken on the way home. Milage will be the killer. In order to meet that requirement, they will almost have to go to a turbo to bring the power back, or even the diesel. Diesel gets my vote with a turbo or two.I like the six speed trans idea too. How would barn doors work with a removable top? The liftgate would make that top awful heavy to remove.

Umm, no. Even though 73-79 full size fords (including Bronco's) are my favorite trucks of all time, I will have to disagree. My factory V8 CJ7 was quite a rugged machine, and it was pretty dang fast to boot, and straight up went anywhere.
One thing I dislike about my Excursion is the barn doors!! It needs a tailgate like the broncos had, the barn doors are floppy and take too long to open up, and the lift hatch needs new lifters all the time. Its fun to sit on the tailgate of the Bronco and eat your sandwich and work on your guns while out in the bush. There is no sitting on the edge with the Ex, there is a bumper that sticks out, making it uncomfortable to sit on the edge.
78_f800 I can see your point without the tailgate. I disconnected the spring to help lift the tailgate on my Broncos. I had a tailgate that got rusty and the bar broke loose inside the gate and shattered the glass. As a result, my wife had trouble closing the gates. She likes the barn doors much better. I use my pick-up so I still have a gate. I also always had trouble with the wiring for the rear glass going to crap too. There is so much moisture trapped in the gate that it just wouldn't last.
It would be a cool mod to convert an X into a tailgate. Any takers?

just replace the stuff that breaks. I will probably fab an excursion tailgate in 15 years when my paint is done, and the doors are shot.
I would love to see a super duty based bronco, they even had a concept several years ago called the baja excursion. With the new coil sprung front they have now, it'd be just like the 78/9 trucks. Those things rode decent, were really maneuverable and as long as the trail was wide enough, would go anyplace. There were only a couple times I couldn't get in somewhere because the woods closed in too much. I imagine the cafe changes will dictate what we get if we do get another bronco. It definitely needs solid axles though.
It wasn't just a 2 door ex, it was basically a bronco, had a removable top, 35s, 2 doors, short chassis, and sd running gear. I drooled all over those pics and prayed that they built it, but they didn't. I think they had that around 2002 maybe.
Whoever Said to Put it on the Raptors Chasis had the right idea i have an 87 bone stock bronco and i go everywhere and anywhere that lifted jeeps do with no trouble at all so if Ford was going to bring back the Bronco it ought to be as offroad capable as possible and i would love to see what those internal bypass shocks would do With a short wheelbase like the Broncos
