I just got a Mag Hytec . .yeah expensive .. but WORTH it . .very well made - comes with an oring so no gasket material needed. It does have a drain plug and also has a dip stick to check your fluid. Additionally there's a plug on the rear already tapped for 1/8" NPT so you can put in a sender - which I did - for the rear diff temp.
Your stock diff will hold just about 3 quarts .. the PML pan holds .8 quart over stock. The Mag Hytec doubles your capacity and holds 6 quarts - so make sure you get 2 bottles of Motocraft friction modifier
I just bought a Mag Hytec off ebay for $140. I was going to do the '08 cover until I found out about the Microsoft Live cashback deal. I got 30% off for that plus I had a 10% off coupon so it worked out great. Right now the MS Live cashback is only 8% though.
I haven't put it on yet due to cold temps, rain, snow, and being lazy
If all you want is an easy drain and cost is an issue, just weld or braze a coupon of 3/16" steel to the stock cover and then drill/tap a hole for a plug.
Make sure it is located in a spot it will not interfere with the ring gear, of course.
If you want one for strength and a drain ARB has a nice heavy duty one that has magnets on the drain plug and on the dip stick. But in the rear Mag Hytec is the way to go the extra volume helps a lot in keeping things cool. ARB doesn't have one yet for the 10.5 rear only the Dana 60.
Rear diff dip stick? You should never have to check the rear diff oil level unless you have a leak.
A dipstick sounds like a good way for water to enter the axel.

The dipstick isn't like an oil or trans fluid dip stick. It threads into the cover and seals with an O-ring. The drain plug also seals with an O-ring.
Agreed though that the dipstick is not really necessary. If you're laying down there anyway, you might as well just inspect it through the fill hole. But, if you have a dipstick, might as well use it!
