I thought about this last time ford rattled its sword. I am going to debadge some of my fords and send them back to ford with a letter letting them know how I feel. Maybe with a photo of the debadged truck/car. I am so over them.
You all take this stuff too serious. The horses didn't patton the name, ford did. There's allways more to things than meets the eye, there's 2 sides to every story. There not going after RPS, only TRS, so there's more to it than were being told. Possibly like merchanticing stuff with the ranger name, like T-shirts maybe, who knows, but there's something more to it. If not they would be going after RPS or this site for using ford in the name. You guy's need to get a grip and calm down. You guy's turn on ford in a heart beat, what loyality. There's still plenty of colordo's and tacoma's for sale ha ha. Personaly, I have faith in ford, I think ford not being an **** hole is why there doing better than the other 2 and don't need the bailout. I think we need to know all the facts before passing judgement.
Wendell, when did Ford first use the name Ranger and on what?
Marmon-Herrington created a Ford Suburban like 4WD vehicle from a panel truck and called it a Ranger circa 1948/52, but this is not what I'm refering to.
I was thinking of Roosevelt but that's way before my era. I was out scouring junk yards for my brother's car, so I'll try to catch up tonight. I am thinking Ford pulled the final straw & make me wonder why I don't yank those badges off mine & fill in Spring. If they complain of such minor stickers that degrade rapidly, why are we parading thiers around & paying for the privilege? Anyway, I did skim some of the RPS thread before I had to go earlier. Mind, I'll figure on leaving the jazzy decals that say nothing of the whole thread and look like dyslexic Dodge version... OK, ours probable came 1st & Dodge tried to jump in, give them that.
All right, cool your jets people, I just checked in at TRS, they have reached a tenitive agreement with ford and can continue to use the name and don't have to pay the fine. What got them in trouble was they were selling shirts and decals with the licened ford logo without permission. In other words they were profiting from the ford logo without consent of ford, so chill. Ford has a right to protect thier name from being phrofited, all Jim has to do was ask.
Nice job Ford! Anger and alienate your dying customer base even more! Now there's a solid business plan.
I might understand Ford going after websites that use the Ford name and generate income. But to go after not-for-profit "enthusiast" sites that don't even use the "F" word in their name is absolutely dispicable. I cannot think of one shred of harm that a site like RPS or TRS can be causing Ford. On the other hand, it's easy to see the many ways in which these sites actually help Ford.
Every time I start thinking that Ford might actually have a shot at turning things around, something like this comes to my attention, and I wonder all over again how they even survived to this point.
EXACTLY my thinking. TRS has been a pretty informative site for me. Ford ain't the only one doing stuff like this. Harley is constantly after those who use their name / trademark.
How would you guy's like it if someone was making money off of your name without your permission, or at least cutting you in? I know I wouldn't like it much. Informitive site or not, they were making money off of the ford name. When your in business making money, you must play by the rules. The site maybe free, but the stuff they were selling was not. It has nothing to do with the use of ranger as was first stated, they were selling shirts and decals with the licenced ford logo. Ford wasn't wrong in this case, they pay good money for the licence and have a right to protect thier logo's and name from pirating. Ken doesn't do it here, or RPS. TRS learned a valuble leason in business. Let TRS use my name without my permission, I would sue, unless they cut me in of course ha ha.
Sorry 'bout that Wendell. When it comes to Ford, I will get ticked off like a fire-cracker on occasion, esp after we let a dealer do a shoddy recall repair on my Dad's car & couldn't get him to stop chatting about the new Flex rat trap. The repair itself just needs the overly long harness strapped up somewhere on his ol' Vic rather than let a plug rattle on the shock tower near the steering. And some kid asking me what I thought of 2 new ~40k Mustangs... They got a good truthful summary of what I know while I chafed. Mentioned would be more fun to have a 5.0L Ranger with GT40 heads! Not as much fun as 5.7l but well that's about it.

I didn't know about the shirts and decals.
In any case, it's good to hear the matter is going to be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.
