Just found this forum and was wondering if any of you could help.
Just recently purchased a Mountaineer Premier awd with the 4.6 3v. When you accelerate it seems jumpy also when you decelerate (say coming up to a stop light) around 5-10 mph. It feels like there is a hard shift back down into 1st gear. I am not sure if this the trans or has something to do with the transfer case...
This is my first suv/truck and I am not to knowelegable with these...
What you might be feeling is the same thing mine has always done. I believe it is from the AWD system, the front wheels kind of fighting the rear wheels. Kind of feels like a surging when you take off. There is some sort of a viscous coupling in the transfer case, I haven't researched exactly how it works. I hate the AWD system. It works fine but I don't like not being able to turn it off, & it is constantly costing me mpg's.
