Dove-c

Just inherited a '78 Mark V w/460 and 48K on the odo. Also just bought a set of "DOVE-C" heads and intake at the 'yard for about $80 (which also netted me a number for a dude who wants to give me a complete, solid running 460 out of a '71 Lincoln, too). I don't know much about this series of engine, but I have been pulled stuff and selling it to suppliment my "lay-off" funds. My gut instinct is that if I can't sell the pieces for anything, I can go through them and put them into my Mark V along w/ a better cam, carb, and a true dual exhaust set-up for an improvement in the Lincoln if nothing else. Any thoughts, ideas, knowledge, or suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your lay off. I think we are going to start to see a lot of parts for sale here and there in the future with this big recession.

Use the DO heads on the Lincoln block, sell the D3's off the motor, and sell the 71 Lincoln motor, which should have the same heads (D0). If the heads on that other motor are D2's, they are the least desirable heads on a 429/460. Install a 71 or older, or EFI timing chain, have the distributor re-curved, hotter coil, better spark plug wires, better cam, roller tip rockers(to save from guide wear) and a reasonably sized exhaust, around 2-2.25" mandrel bent for best power.

For now, leave everything alone till you have the $$$ to put into the car. Gas is expensive still, even tho its on sale 50% off, your efforts are best to use/have a commuter car that sips gas, use the savings to build your boat.

Thanks guys- if I use the car, it'll just be for getting to my p/t job. I certainly won't be putting alot of cash into it until I gain employment. Have been approached by a Lincoln collector to sell it to him, too, so we'll have to see where my job horizon takes me (I have 1 good prospect w/a very stable company; I've been interviewed, gave copies of my degree, certifications, licenses, and letters of recommendation...not to mention filling out background check OK and a badge application. Nothing is written in stone, but I am feeling that my chances are decent).

Heh, I would definatley sell the car to the collector if the price is right, unless there is serious sentimental attachment. That thing will eat you alive in fuel costs, even tho gas is on sale for 50% off for now. Chances are, gas will be back up to $3 and $4 a gallon very soon. Buy a good used low mileage (less than 100K) Honda. I hate to knock good ol American steel, but when it comes to saving you money at the pump, they bring the suck.
