Why poop brown?

Anyone know why some these trucks where painted poop brown? Ugly! What were they thinking on this one? I've seen some rare ugly colors too (green and yellow, etc).

What vehicle from the 70's wasn't painted that way? I like those colors; they have an earth-like tone to them.

Can't imagine anyone liking poop brown. Not something that would turn my head.

Imagine what people will say 30 years from now about todays trucks having 20 inches of lift, and 22" tires on a 3/4 ton. Gray, white, UGLY colors. What were they thinking?

The browns and greens are cool now because they would look so weird on some of today's vehicles (although the new brown Ford uses on the Super Duty & F150s on '08 & up looks pretty darn good)!

For the dent sides, nothing beats the red & white like on UTfball's F250. Wish the '78 I found had that paint and not the 2 tone brown that it has.

The coral red on the other hand, what were they thinking?? If I wanted a Chevy Orange colored truck, I would have bought a 350 long block and strapped it to my lawnmower.

Seriously, show me the difference between Chevy Orange and Corral Red. Half of the front is buffed factory paint, the other is engine paint.

I tell people the chevy orange gives me the right to claim 15 extra HP because of the chrome valve covers.

my old 79 was the dark chocolate metallic brown, and at first i did not like that color. but over the years it has grown on me quite a bit.

I think there are just as ugly colors today...like that ugly seafoam green on the Mustang, etc.

PS...thanks torquemeister. The red and white Deluxe Tu-Tone on the trucks and Combination Tu-Tone on the Broncos is by far my favorite paint. The comes the white/blue/white tu-tone, then comes the dark brown metallic.
So true. Have any pics of both?
