By the way, I love the old colors. Especially the orange. ;-)
I think the old browns are crap-tacular. As far as the newer colors are concerned, I don't mind them so much so long as they're well done. Cheap paint jobs really stand out, in a bad way.

who cares if a truck was painted brown in the 70s? it was a in thing! look at the fake paneling and cosumer products, like fridges and stoves of the time, they where painted funky greens and poop browns, who cares? people will make fun of you tube and i-pods in 30 years too, just like we make fun of in style colors and 8 track players and records and cassette tape, vhs of yesteryear, that's like saying why did they put such ugly fins and jet age styling cues into 50s cars? because it was in style! don't you get it! original poster! oh i do like the jet age and fins of the 50s i was just using it for comparison! and i don't mind the browns of the 70s on cars and trucks, but nothing else but brown would be a pick well ahead of pink hues! and some of the funky greens where cool on cars and trucks but on fridges and stoves would be a no no!

Avocado green was used on kitchen appliances in the 1960's, early 1970's.

When the color went out of fashion, many peeps replaced them just because.

But remember, back in those days, appliances were still MADE IN THE US of A and lasted for decades.

So just because it may seem fugly now, it doesn't hurt the workin' of it none.

i agree number dummy, i love old appliances! my toaster i scored about 10 years ago for 2 bucks at a garage sale, it is a toast master, and i did some research and it turns out it was made in 1941! and has a nice clock tick when it cooks! its sweet and made in the U.S.A.! and still works like new! it was the last of them before the plant was converted to make shells for the war effort! i love old appliances! they where on a whole diffetent level of build quality, due to the fact of being built with better materials and in the U.S.A.! and one other old appliance i have is my chainsaw my grandfather gave to me, due to the fact he wanted a new stihl chain saw, its a vintage 1968 Pioneer Chainsaw, it has stacked exhaust so its loud! and proud!, and after a tune up, it works like new!, old things work so much better then new, when taken care of, my toaster and chainsaw will last me to my final days, which should be a long time since i am only a young 19 year old! and my truck will too! and really like the nice old 40s and 50s fridges and stoves! and i like a lot of vintage radios and appliances and of course cars and trucks, nothing beats the old technology! nothing!

this holds true with our dentsides and older trucks and cars! and i meant no disrespect to the old colors. the old styling might be fugly by todays posh standards but to me and others its pure art! and is beautiful!

My house is a virtual museum of old stuff...have a Fridge-Aire floor mount freezer my dad bought new in 1955, and (of course)...it still works.

Furniture from the 19th Century thru the 1940's, after that, who cares?

Two pianos, a Fey upright from 1881, Baldwin Parlor Grand my grandma bought new in 1925.

Like radios? So do I.

Plastic cases, wooden cases, AM or AM/Short Wave with multiple bands.

Have other stuff that works just as well now as they did in the 19th Century.

Click-Click= BOOM!

btw: You can edit your post for up to one hour. Most peeps here scroll back up read the posts again.

With me, editing is a way of life...four times in just thiis one post.

Hey. Wtf!

Funny, I hear all the time "If you're truck was any other color, It'd be just like ANY OTHER TRUCK"

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I think I like the odd color combos the best simply because they are unique.
My 79 F-100 that I bought from the local ford dealer is the same color as your first one. When I had it painted in 1999, I had it painted the same with base-coat and clear. I love those old colors of the "2 tone and chrome " years!!!!!

Coral dates back to the mid 1960's and was first used on T-Birds & Mustangs. At that time, Ford called it Vermillion.

In 1970/72, it was used on trucks for the first time and was known as Calypso Coral.

The color re-appeared in the late 1970's on F100/350 & Bronco's. This time around it was just called Coral.

About 6 months ago another member asked about this color...I typed all the cars/trucks that used it, the usual skeptics popped up immediately.

When I listed the Ford part number for touch up paint used 1966/79, that seemed to satisfy the naysayers.

AE81-1730-B Vermillion, Calypso Coral, Coral...and maybe another name cuz Lincoln's used the same colors as Ford but not the same names for the colors.

Here's some more loose stool for you to look at...

The clear is coming off of the poop.

It's been repainted, prolly more than once.

It wasn't two stage paint (base coat/clear coat) originally, it was painted as all Ford's at that time were, in acrylic enamel.

A good wash job and a clay bar followed up by a good cleaner wax will do wonders for that paint.

DO NOT use a wax that contains silicone, or spray silicone anywhere near the paint.

Silicone will strip off the clear coat!!

Actually, I like the browns and "earth tones" too. Just thought I'd make whoever started the post cringe a little when they saw my truck. Living in the desert it hides the dirt and dust. If I did repaint the truck it would be the same color(s).

I'm sure it's been painted a few times, but the AZ desert sun and not been kind to it. I'm sure at one time it was a fairly decent paint job. I'll give it a the clay bar and cleaner wax a try NumberDummy. Thanks. (Then I'll have a polished turd!? )
