Well cabin fever has set in and has me going batty. I decided to dig out the truck and do a little bit of work this past weekend. I regret not doing this when I prepped and painted the under carriage. This way the enginge and tranny would have been the project to compete. Oh well, it was fun nonetheless
Decided to do a little work on the truck over the weekend. I took apart the radiator support to see how bad it was. This shot is from the passenger’s side. Cut out the bad piece.
Made a template for cutting out the patch.
Patch welded in.
Sprayed with Eastwood’s rust encapsulator
Enging compartment side of the core.
Template for cutting out this patch.
Measured the patch from the inside.
Welded the patch from the inside and then covered the holes by welding on the outside
This shot shows how I took everything down to bare metal
Makeshift metal break
Took down the firewall to bare metal and welded some patches to cover holes made by a previous owner
Great progress; I like the inner fenders rangoon red; I'm currently doing a 64 for myself; I've painted the frame hammer silver; body paint is John Deere blitz black; and interior Rangoon red and white; I also shot my inners fenders red as well. Really pops the motor.
Sorry no pic's; just old gallery photo's of the truck before resto.
Keep up the good work. use the winter months for cleaning and preping things like wiring and interior pieces.
Thanks Mitch. I like the hammered paints and used hammer gray on my i-beams and coils. I'll bet the hammer silver will look good on your frame. Your 64 looks like a nice solid base. I really like the rim/hubcap combo. If you don't mind my asking...where did you find them? Do you know if they will they fit over a disc brake caliper.
My truck will eventually be headed down your way when finsihed (~80-90 miles north of you). I have some property on Lake Barkley in Kuttawa, Ky where I plan to use it as my hauler. However, at the rate I'm going it will be a while.
Hey Carras do you remember what gauge metal you used for your radiator support repair? I'm looking into repairing mine possibly but I wasn't sure what gauge metal to start with.
