How do you think rope (the plastic type) would work for a substitute for chain? I'm looking for better rear traction for my 2wd Ranger in the snow. I've added sandbags to the bed, which helped a little. Snow tires and chains are too pricey to fit my budget.
Thanks,
Nate.
rope=$30
rope coming off the tires, losing control and causing an accident=at least $3000
worth it=no
sry, not tryin to be a smart@$$, but its not worth the risk. i give you credit for thinking outside the box, but... not safe.
plus, the rope will get hot on the highway from the friction and will come apart.
put about 6 cinder blocks in your bed and drive like an old lady.
Try some of the bigger trucking places in your area.
Call and ask if they will sell you their worn out chains.
I just buy old truck chains cheap, and make them smaller to fit my pickups.
I have been doing this for 20 years, and they are better than store bought chains IMO, for hardly any cost.
