Im new to the site and my 04 F-150 Fx-4,
My question is i am looking to install my audio system in the truck and was in need of some suggestions on where to run my power wire from the battery, and also the rca and remote. I've searched the site for the past hour and really haven't found many ideas.
I have a F-350, but I would think all wiring is installed the same.
Run the power wire(red) from battery on the drivers side(if battery located on that side from a hole in firewall. Just find a good metal spot for your GND connection!
Run RCA audio output from HU along passenger side to eliminate noise from entering signal.
you can run the amp turn-on lead on either side.
good luck!
That's pretty much it. I tend to run my power down the drivers side as well regardless of battery location, there are usually larger grommets and more room to run larger wires. I also run my remote wire with my power wire. Signal wires down the pass side, but I do have to keep the cb coax separate from the stereo RCAs.
On the wire itself, you might as well run 4ga or larger depending on your amp(s). Fuse it near the battery and use a ground wire of equal gauge. Try to use star washers and remove any paint or coating from the contact surface for the ring terminal and star washer. If your drilling a hole, try to use either a lock washer or another star washer on the bottom.
I ended up running my power wire straight back from the battery (pass. side). Drilled a hole thru the firewall and ran it down the wire channel under the stepguards. I ran the rca's to the back under the carpet under the drivers seat and along the hump.
