New to the forum - my question is regarding my transmission...I have an early 99 F-350 - spent $4K to upgrade the transmission due to a shuttering shift problem - problem is still there...it acts like it's shifting 3 times in a gear along with bouncing while towing. Anyone else had this problem? Anything else to check - computer, fuel pump, faulty transmission?
Welcome to FTE. What kind of upgrades did they do to your trans? Have you done any mods to your truck? Sorry for all the questions, but it will help these guys figure it out.
It has a triple convertor and all upgrades inside transmission. Need to find paper work to let you know what they did exactly. I have a 3 or 4 year old 80hp superchip programmer, large air intake, 4in high-flow exhaust from the turbo back. I would like to know what is a better chip for the truck and the cost. The tires are 35's if that matters.
Does your truck shift funny and buck with the superchip removed? The reason I ask, is our early birds sometimes don't respond as well to off the shelf chips or programmers.
When the chip is out -
I don't notice any funny shifting on the flats but if I'm going up a steep grade from drive to overdrive it does it a little bit.
When the chips is in -
I notice it in all gears but first gear.
Either in or out -
It doesn't hesitate when you accelerate slowly - only when you give it half throttle.
I just took my old Superchip out of my truck because of the way it was shifting in Performance tune. I rather drive around in stock then have the Superchip in. Check your paper work on the trans build to see if they put some kind of Valve Body in it. Then call Jody at DP-TUNER and he will fix you up with what you want.
My Superchip is now doing the job it was designed to do. Holding down some paper work in my shop.
This post is not intended to offend anyone with a Superchip.
$4k?? Dang man -- you coulda had the ultimate in bulletproof trannys for that. The BTS is pretty much the top of the line, and you can't break it.
I'm thinking you have something sticking in the VB. When did you have it built? When I tore apart mine, I noticed that I could get the solenoids to stick if I wasn't careful. There are three shift solenoids 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4, so it's possible that the last two are sticking a little.
There are TWO shift solenoids in a 4R100, not three. There are two other solenoids that are not shift solenoids, one to lock the torque converter and one to control line pressure.

Thanks, Mark. Terminology issue -- I meant the actual valves accumulator VB, not the solenoids.... Sorry.

Our early 99's will shift a little funny going into overdive. It's the factory programing. Jody can definitely fix that. Good Luck
