Automatic floor shifter

My truck presently has a B&M shifter in the floor. It is sort of ugly and I have a long reach to shift it. I have seen truck with long shifters and and just a boot on the floor. Can someone tell me what they used? Will it be hard to hook it up and how do you know what gear you are in? Anyone have pictures of theirs? I have finally figured out how to build a gallery. Just have not had the time to get my pictures in. Hopefully this weekend.

Lokar

I used the Lokar shifter, on AOD tranny mount, which worked well. Easy to install. What tranny you using, check out Lokar website.

Pappy, I also have a Lokar on my 700R4 trans, you can get long handles, mine is 16" which works well for me but you can get longer and they offer selector packages that shows the gear your in but I do not have it nor do I know how well they work but I love the Lokar,Garry

I have used the 21 inch (or is it 23?) Lokar and it is just about the right height in my panel. Also used this one in a regular pickup. Has adjustments front to back for proper positioning.

Hi Pappy,

I had that too, but the PO tried to weld a "pedistal" onto the seat frame to help out the reach thing. It was a mess! It was always cutting up my legs!

Anyway, I reinstalled the stock columnn shift for the 3 speed, and tied off the upper shift arm, and connected a single bent rod I made from the lower shifter to the transmission. Very nice and clean - works great!

I'll go take some pictures and be right back!

Julie!

Hi Again - didn't get back in time.

Here is the first picture of the old shift arrangement on the seat:

Here is a picture of the column shift arms as I'm using them...I lied, I tied up the lower one and used the upper:

And finally the linkage from underneath. This is in a 51 F1 with 390/C6. Less room than your set up.

A better pic:

If you have any questions let me know!

Julie!

Pappy I also used the Lokar 23" and love it. Big old fat boy like me makes it easy. It has a button on top you push down on to release it from park and then it will lock for rev and then neutral. It has prnd23 on the button so you know where you are. You can look out the window to and see which way you are going. HAAAAAAAAAA
