it quit me
on the way home this afternoon my truck 90 f150 302 5spd quit it kinda gave a chug the died. got towed home so it kewld down. once home then it started right up ran find till the middle of my koer test 5 min. then died again ive got codes 18 33 87 52 on the koeo test. right before it died it reaked of sulpher i mean reaked. if u have any ideas let me know thnxs. i replaced the egr vent conntrol valve saturday . it ran fine till now,. so i duno
not sure about the sulfur smell, but when my truck acted like that it was the pick up coil in the distributor. i am not familiar with 2 digit codes, but you could find out what they mean at Ford Fuel Injection
when u pull the vacuum line off the egr valve there should be vacuum on the line if u rev up the engine right? i never had vacuum at all and iv got codes for the egr valve position sensor and valve not opening .
well i think my cat is clogged i checked the vacume at the tree with the engine running at idle. around 18 hg when i spike the throttle the vacume drops to zero. when i rev up the engine to 2000 rpm i get no vac at the egr valve line . so i think i have a faulty egr vent controll valve its 2 days old.when i had the vacume guage on the tree with the engine. running 'hot 'when it usually dies the vacume droped to about 15 hg just before it died. so im gona swap some parts on this thing and see what happens tomorow.
18-spout circuit failure
23-closed tps voltage higher or lower than expected
31-pfe or evp circuit below minimum voltage of 0.24 volts
33-egr valve opening not detected
44-thermactor air injection system inoperative (right side)
52-power steering pressure switch always open or closed
87-fuel pump circuit failure, when fuel pump relay was activated by eec. voltage was not detected.

to kill a cat, u must have multiple problems. this might not be easy. Better get a Haynes manual and save FTE to Favorites.
Start with basic timing, pull SPOUT jumper out see if timing is close. Erase codes, and keep checking as you troubleshoot. These trucks spit out occasional codes, even when running well, KOEO codes can be weeks or months old.
Check vacuum lines, vac lines control engine emissions systems
Don't start throwing money away. Check one thing at a time, and be damn sure it is broken b$ swapping it out. Fix one thing at a time!!!
Don't strip the engine down to the block and rebuild. You may have a misfiring cylinder, dumping raw fuel intpo the cat, possible bad wire or broken plug! CATS hate raw fuel..it tend to make them glow red and melt.
You can pull spark plugs and smell check for fuel, and see if any plugs are fouled too..very good test.

well two days before this all happend i put a new egr vent conrtoll valve on the old one was giving me egr on idle. now the new one wont give me any egr. when the engine is hot i rev it at 2000 rpm and hold it butr there is no vac at the egr valve line. there should be vacume shouldnt there?
ok if i get this going now it just seems to quit at any time hot cold warm dosent matter it will fire up for a split second then die again until i leav it sit for about an hour.then it will run till it feels like quiting i guess i dont have clue where to go next. i have 35 psi on the fuel rail all the time it seems . what else should i check?
oki checked now ive got codes 18 34 and 63 i think i have them because i had those plugs disconected. now this truck wont start at all where it use to start and run fine when its cold even with all plugs conected. my fuel press is at 35 psi when running with a good flow ive got spark. i set the timing only a month ago but havent checked it yet. what should i do now?
As cjben said, I believe you have a bad pickup coil, aka stator assy, aka ignition pickup inside the distributor. I believe it is easier to replace the whole distributor. And for future reference, when you have that many error codes, disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes to reset the computer and erase error codes. New codes will present themselves after a short drive.
ok so with ignition on i poped the cap and rotor off and wiggled the cup or disk and u can hear the fuel pump and relays powering over and over again basically cuting power out to ignition so im guessing as u huys said the pickup is gone?
It sounds like your pickup is working. When you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump come on for a couple seconds. When the computer gets a signal from the pickup (from engine cranking or you moving the dist shaft) it turns the pump back on. Have you checked to see if you are getting spark? I would suspect the ignition module over pickup coil, I've replaced a bucket-load of them over the years and maybe one or two pickup coils
