Lately I've noticed a little bit of a wandering idle in my truck. Not huge jumps, maybe 50 rpm or so but enough to cause the sound of the motor to change and the tach needle to move a little bit. I remembered Ron having this problem after putting in his new HPOP and he said that when he installed his new injectors it went away, suggesting that I may need new injector o-rings. My question is- if I'm going to have the valve covers off and the injectors out, am I stupid not to do some kind of upgrade while I'm there? Truck has 175K on the ticker and stock injectors as far as I know.
do you have a gray CPS? It has been known to cause rough idle for some people, mine is okay. Since you'll have the covers off, test all of your glow plugs and replace accordingly while it's easy to get to....
A look under the VCs never hurts. I bought my truck used and within the first week I noticed it ran rough between 1300 and 1500 rpms. I took it to a dealership, it was still under warranty, and they found a cracked injector cup in cylinder #1. They replaced the cup and injector and all has been good since. It didn't cost me a penny, not even a deductible. That was in June of 2002. Just a couple of months ago while installing new glow plugs I saw where they had replaced the bad injector with a reman (WTF, I would have specified a new one if I had known) and also saw that the #8 injector was not an AE code long lead. The none AE code LL injector in #8 explained the loud injector knock I had before doing the CCK. I also found the driver side UVCH connector starting to come loose. You never know what's under there until you look.
That was a bit off topic but go ahead and pull the VCs and watch the injector oil spouts as it idles, check the UVCH & connectors and shim them and retorque the rocker arms and injector hold downs. Put in new glow plugs if you have them. If you do all this and don't replace your injectors it would still be wortwhile. JMHO
Glow plugs were replaced last summer some time, at that time all the injector hold downs and rocker arm bolts were all torqued back down (almost all of them were in spec). Truck is running a black CPS right now. I didn't get any kind of warranty when I bought my truck in March, one wasn't even offered. I have seen commercials offering warranties for any rig with under 200k that I might look in to, that would be a good way to get some new injectors
I'm still running my stock injectors at 273k & change. I'd think twice about that warranty. You're likely to end up with a set of rebuilds that may be worse than what you have. Didn't Ron also have a bad gasket in his HPOP reservoir, or was that someone else?

Well chit, I wasn't any help at all.
Make sure any warranty covers pre-existing conditions.
