My 94 bronco has always had the problem since I bought it with 60,000 miles in 97 that if it sits for a period of time, when you start it and try to back up out of the garage it takes a bit of time for the tranny to start moving the bronco.
It used to happen when it would set for a few weeks or longer between driving but in recent times it happens every day or so after sitting overnight. It is worse the longer it sits. Usually takes from a few seconds to say 5-8 seconds as it gradually starts going once placed in R.
Other than this startup issue it works great. Is there a leaking checkvalve somewhere and the fluid takes time to be pumped back up or is it something else?
Yes, it's a leaking check valve. The torque converter is draining into the pan. The pump has to fill the torque converter before it will move the vehicle. You can prove this by checking the fluid level before starting the engine. It will be showing overfilled if that's the problem.
The check valve is in the valve body, but I don't have a diagram to know exactly where it's located.
