idle speed?

I have a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 V6 with a manual transmission. If it is just sitting and idling for a few minutes it will idle at 1000 RPM. I don’t know what the idle speed should be but it seems a little high? Also some times when I am driving and I put the clutch in to shift the RPMs will (instead off falling back down to the idle speed) go up to 3000 RPM and then if I hold the clutch down for a few seconds longer it will start to fall back down to around 1500 rpm it seems to stay at that speed for a while and then it will drop to 1000 RPM once I have stopped and have the clutch down or in N. There is no check engine light on and it seems to happen intermittently. I’ve only had the truck for about 2 months and the guy before me said he replaced the Idle Air Control Valve fairly recent???????? Thank you.

high idle

Did you ever come up with a fix for this? My 96' Mazda B3000 is having the same problem. I can find links to tell me I'm not the only one. But, none that tells me what fixes it.
