I've had this question for awhile, but i've never got around to asking it.My vin code is F10ERHD0580.Now I know that F10 means F100 4x2,The E means 4.9 300,and the R means built in San Jose. What plagues me,is the HD0580.I know that it's the consecutive unit number, but what does the HD stand for?I'm guessing that it means the package of the truck. My truck is a Custom,so i'm guessing that HD means Custom, and that my truck is the 580th Custom truck made in 1980.But i'd like to be sure.Any help is appreciated.
Here's another listing I found and edited down for clarity.

Looks like you "HD" was just a letter series in this case. There were lots of different sn setups that became gradually more complex before it became the standardized system we use now.
