'72 Cab VIN Decode
What information is being told here? So far I've digured out that it's a December 1971 F350 chassis/cab with a 9' bed and a 360 that was made in San Jose. Anything else this tag indicates?
What's the 9-377, YA, BDY, 8, LHSM, CUST, Y, and F all mean?
(Buck Tag) on the firewall. I've never even heard of this before. What information is being told here? So far I've figured out that it's a December 1971 F350 chassis/cab with a 9' bed

Codes on "Buck Tag" located on firewall used by assembly line workers to make sure installed parts match the build sheet. These codes cannot be decoded.
Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch.
Safety Standard Certification Label glued to B pillar below the striker plate.
Cab & Chassis does not come from the factory with any "back of cab equipment." People bought these to install aftermarket bodies.
9' Express Flareside bed available on 1953/72 F350.
December 1971 build date would be a 1972. Since historically new vehicles are introduced in September of the previous year, production begins in August.
LHSM... left hand side mirror
Cust - trim level
.. your guess is as good as mine on the remainder.
I don't think tag copy (the text) wasn't standardized so what was used at one plant was not likely used in another. That's why it's not "decodable" by referencing a catalog or manual. It can be decoded rather by a lil deductive reasoning.
Any idea what these bolts are on the back of the cab? My '69 doesn't even have the provisions for them. I saw these bolts on a '72 F250 as well.
Beginning in 1967, unless ordered with Western Mirrors, all F100/350's came w/an el cheapo standard equipment L/H mirror (C7AZ-17696-A same as 1967/72 cars, LMC calls it by the ridiculous name "Sport" mirror), but it was not factory installed.
It was placed inside the cab at final assembly. Dealers installed all the outside mirrors.
The 'bolt-on' brace is not shown in the parts catalog sheet metal section. It was not used to mount the in-cab tank, since the tank mounted to the floor pan.
1969/72 F100/350's with factory installed in-cab storage compartment:
The optional 25 gallon auxiliary tank was a mandatory order for an obvious reason, since the storage compartment was installed where the tank was located.
This brace may only have been used to mount the storage compartment.
