I'm getting ready to change the transmission and transfer case fluid in my '02 F250, and I know that the owners manual recommends mercon/dexron trans fluid. My question is, can the new dexron 6 be used in my vehicle? They say that it is reverse compatable. I work at a GM dealership, and we use dex 6 in everything. I even used it in my 97 Lumina with 185,000 miles on it with no problems....Yet....
As long as the Dexron is Mercon compatible, it should work. The big thing would be making sure Dexron meets the criteria of the Mercon/Mercon V fluids.
Just an FYI. I just finished changing my ATF with Mobil 1 Synthetic. It lists being compatible with, among others, Dexron 6, Mercon, Mercon 5, Mercon LV. So is what many of of us have been using for years still OK?
