Dexron or Type F trans fluid in a 80 F250?

Question Dexron or Type F trans fluid in a 80 F250?

Do I use Dexron or Type F automatic trans fluid in a 80 F250 4x4 with a 400 and a C6 transmission? Can these two fluids be mixed?

Mercon/Dexron III. No, don't mix them on purpose.

When did Ford stop using type F?

Ford stopped using Type F in the late 70's.

The fluid changeover was May 1976 transmission production date.
