Did it just all of a sudden do this ? When say you checked the tps did you check the throttle pedal ? What exactly are we working on and have you done any mods to it ;chip, tuner exhaust , ?
i hooked up a snap on solus the tps is reading properly it has been blowing the #45 fuse intermittantly and is not blowing anymore is there two power feeds to the ecm ? i think whatever was blowing the fuse has finally burnt in two but i don't have a wiring diagrham all these problems happened at the same time
Welcome to FTE. Ford was kind enough to change the fuse panel on us between some years, so you'll need to tell us what year truck you have and the fuse description so we have a better idea.
If fuse 45 is blown, you are not supplying voltage to the Idle Validation Switch (IVS), and thus the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is not seeing it when the pedal is fully released at start-up. This means "idle only" until the PCM does see the voltage.
Find out where the short (usually a chafed wire) is, as that's likely to be what it is. It can be on either side of the switch's wiring in this case.
Red wire with a yellow tracer, according to the PDF.
I've experienced this problem. Pull the covers from the steering column and trace the OD cancellation wire that goes from the shift arm and plugs into the harness that is located under the cover. This wire is know to chaff and short. I can't remember where the write-up is located, but others have experienced as well.
I finally located the short, repaired the wire and then added additional insulation at the rub-point. No problems since (knock on wood).
Chaffing wires in the steering column. If you have a tilt wheel and are always flipping it up when getting out and flipping it back down when getting in you should check all the wiring in the steering column shroud. Take some preventative steps now. I doubt that this problem occurs in trucks without a tilt wheel. JMHO
I had the same problem. The wires to the od cancel switch in the end of the shifter had rubbed at the end of the shifter tube. Blowes fuse 19 on 1999 f-350. Take the covers off and push the pin and remove the key switch and the shifter tube. The wires are very small and look for a nick.
