Tailgate load

Hello,
2008 F250SD V10 Crew Cab LB 4X4

I just bought an old player piano and I plan on getting it into the truck by rolling it up ramps sitting on the tailgate.... then roll it into the truck.
I have no idea what the piano weighs ... it is an older upright. Do you think this will be too much for the tailgate cables?
Can the cables be replaced with stronger chain ... I mean is there room for chain when the tailgate is closed? BTW I also have the new stepgate to contend with when rolling over the handle.
Thanks guys.

you could take the tailgate off before you load it and put it back on afterwards....I know this is easy on my truck....not too sure of the ease on the 08's

I wouldn't be as worried about the cables, as bending the gate itself...

Safe way

Yeah, that will probably be the safest way to do it ... I hope it's easy to get that tailgate off.
Thanks for the input.

The tailgate comes of fairly easily, at least on the similarly functioning F150's. I've put a lot of weight on my tailgates. As long as it's distributed well, it's ok. But the safeest thing, and probably best for the tailgate is to ramp directly into the bed. I take my tailgate off all the time if I think it will be in danger.

Yup! You'd be really upset if you wound up tearing up the tailgate!

Last week I had 320 lbs of Quickcrete and a 210-ish lbs guy on my tailgate. No problems.

110 lb. Hay bale from 12 ft. up is very detrimental to a tailgates lifespan.

I loaded an upright piano into the back of my 250 not long ago, ramps right onto the tailgate. It was fine. I wouldn't worry.

yup thats what bowed out mine,

to the OP you should be fine, the gate should hold the weight as long as it is distributed evenly

Plenty of people, myself included, drive 4 wheelers, motorcycles, and tractors up ramps attached to the tailgate and don't have any problems (unless the mower deck doesn't clear). I wouldn't imagine a piano would weigh much more than any of them.
