I have a 2004 F-250 30,000 miles. I want to upgrade my muffler. I'm looking for a more mellow rumble then a loud aggresive tone. In your opinion which muffler should I go with: Flowmaster 40 series or 70 series? Or, if you would suggest a muffler that would meet my expections would be very helpful as well. Also, any tips, suggestions, or warnings about installation. Thank you!
have you looked at magnaflows? they are in the same price range and sound really good....they dont have as much drone as flowmasters and in my opinion you get better performance...
Which motor? For the V10 I like the sound of the Flowmaster 40 cuz its louder (and actually sounds pretty good) than the Magnaflows but for the V8 I say Magnaflow all the way.
my muffler guy kinda screwed me....used a flowmaster knock off, with a dual exit...used 2.5" for the inlet, from the Y pipe, and 2" to each tip...truck sounds ok idling, but when reeved up to 2500-3000 sounds like pissed off indy car....after 3000 rpm gets more quiet...kinda wished hed done 3" pipes....inplace of the cat....
I have an FM70 on my 04' V10. I modified the muffler to make it a tad louder and it sounds great. If your exiting the exhaust in the stock location or behind the rear axle I would look into the flowmaster 50SUV or 50HD mufflers. They will provide more sound than the 70 but will still have enough capacity to not be annoying. You will need a dual opposite offset muffler which has the inlet and out lets off center.(Opposite sides from center, have pics in my gallery)
i have an 03 5.4 with a custom made 3" y 3" straight pipe in place of the cat and a welded in flowmaster 40 series. sounds very good at idle but to some its loud when your on it pretty good.
The 50 series sounds like what you're after... the 70 might be a little too quiet.
Ditto on the 50 series. I have the 50 and love it. From the outside it sounds great but is much quieter from the inside at highway speeds. I didn't want to hear the drone all the time.
